I was just telling my wife that yesterday about how Mayor Turducken was all rah-rah-protestors until that Socialist councilwoman Savant sent them to her house. The only way that would have been funnier would have been if Turducken punched her in the mouth.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 7:22 pmWasn't that the reaction of the Seattle City Mayor for the summer of love, until they started rioting near her house? It was all peace and love....Then? And only then....we needed to clean that shit up.

Depends on the level of the "threat", which ranges anywhere from Japanese Zeroes flying over Oahu to these monkeys pretty much just throwing their own poo on the streets of L.A. I don't think these monkeys are enough of a "threat" that military response is required beyond the National Guard.bpj wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 8:17 pmI certainly dont have an argument with that. I am never going to be able to watch a video of these types of protests now without seeing a monkey throwing his own poo!

For the most part I do agree with you. But our great Governor Supreme caused so much damage with CHAZ and CHOP that the entire state has raised the property tax to cover all the law suites against the city of seattle, state and governor.... and this I don't like.bpj wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 8:17 pmI certainly dont have an argument with that. I think BLM and Antifa should've been destroyed over the last few years. Throw them all in jail.
If they'd done that, we wouldn't have these polesmokers going off in LA.
I dont really have a problem with lib cities and states destroying themselves. I'd let it all burn then come in and sweep up. They've earned what they get at this point.

These protests are such inorganic, top-down orchestrated political theatre. Trump was already in office for 4 years and didn't deport as many people as Obama or Biden. They just media hyped this latest round it to charge everyone up.
I think there's a cycle to it. Every once in a while the system needs a highly charged narrative for the libs to hit the streets on.
People need to start recognizing politics is fake and exploring better ways to channel their energy.
I wish I could say I won't even pay attention, but of course I will be consuming some media on it. I also am not sure how violent it will be or what kind of law enforcement counters will occur. There is always the possibility of major impact along the lines of Covid travel restrictions. My gut tells me it will be a giant nothing burger, but I won't know for sure until after the protests.
I think it's just another way of saying there's someone or something else pulling the strings than who gets elected.
I think the majority of politicians fall on a spectrum of corruption.
I think that the majority of politicians are lobbied to protect special interests. They'll say one thing on the campaign stage while their intention is to totally fuck the American people.
I think politicians on the right have highjacked populism in an effort to push an agenda centered around enhancing corporate greed, personal enrichment, and Christian Nationalism.
I think politicians on the left (mostly older ones like Pelosi, Schumer...) have done the same, minus the Christian Nationalism piece, and not to the same degree. I'm about the furthest thing against Christian Nationalism you can be, and I believe I'm choosing the less corrupt party... to whichever degree that is.
So yes, I agree... I believe other people are pulling the strings. I also believe I am at least working to elect the people most likely to fight those people pulling the strings... Bernie, etc...

And how do we know corruption and special interests run the government?
Someone's money was affected by the farm raids and Trump's position about ICE raids changes on a dime...

A person can vote for whoever they choose, and if they choose to support a candidate that they feel is most likely to fight the people pulling the strings, well, those people aren't usually successful in politics because they're not 'yes' men. The candidate who campaigns on common sense to 'fight city hall' and cut programs in an attempt to trim the deficit is never elected because the brain dead masses of voters (and the ones pulling the strings) will have none of it. NOBODY wants to make sacrifices for the greater good.
Remember when Ross Perot said that he was going to run the country like a business, with a bottom line? Great idea, love it. Never happen.

How do Representatives in Congress, making $174,000 a year, with housing prices in and around Washington, D.C. as high as they are, come out being millionaires?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 2:57 amAnd how do we know corruption and special interests run the government?

I think what Seattle of Bust was referring to is this: Trump is sounding very much like he wants to accommodate farmers, who rely a great deal on immigrant labor, and many of these immigrants are not here legally.Walla Walla Dawg II wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 4:25 amDude, all Sob will do is to attack you for questioning him/her/it/them/they/shim/himher/whateverthethefuck.ddraig wrote: ↑Sat Jun 14, 2025 12:42 amHow do Representatives in Congress, making $174,000 a year, with housing prices in and around Washington, D.C. as high as they are, come out being millionaires?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 2:57 amAnd how do we know corruption and special interests run the government?

I think there is a fork in the road here between (a) doing what we can to deport *criminals* who are here illegally, and (b) cast a broader net and get rid of ALL people who are here illegally.
A big part of the emotional appeal of the Trump/Vance campaign was highlighting heinous crimes, including rape and murder, committed by illegal immigrants. I would guess the support to get rid of illegals who commit serious crimes is close to 100%
But the push to get rid of ALL illegals has manifest itself in raids on workplaces, and that is exactly what sparked the protests (including violent protests) a week ago. In other words, seeking out people who have jobs, probably are paying taxes, but are not here legally.
So now Trump is saying things about illegal immigrants who work on farms that sound very much like an accommodation for people who are holding down jobs and not causing any trouble:
andOur farmers are being hurt badly by, you know, they have very good workers, they have worked for them for 20 years,” he said. “They’re not citizens, but they’ve turned out to be, you know, great. And we’re going to have to do something about that. We can’t take farmers and take all their people and send them back ...
This sounds like commonsense immigration policy to me, and I would support Trump on this if he follows through. But this is NOT the blanket "deport all the illegals" he campaigned on.Our great Farmers and people in the Hotel and Leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace,
