In an effort to read the tea leaves for the off-season...I went and read everything from Jerry I could find....Jerry doesn’t say much

Yes he did suggest he was fixing the bullpen, and we could be competitive next year.....

It would appear to this poster that given Jerry’s past of trading soon and often after the hot stove starts that maybe the wuflu has Ownership shutting down any additional spending other than maybe a bread crumb that falls through.

I still expect ownership to be in on the Japanese pitchers being posted but ultimately not successful in being the highest bidder

I’ve been thinking exactly the same thing over the past couple of days. The ‘war chest’ of salary budget availability we expected to be dug into to strengthen teams is being diverted to operational budget lines for sustenance, rather than advancement.

No doubt other teams (apart from the Phillies, who seem to be laying everyone off) are doing the same thing. It creates an interesting dilemma for this year’s free agent class, in terms of salary projections. Do they devalue themselves to increase their chances of signing ? Do teams look at each other divisionally and gauge who’s being cautious or at risk spending-wise, and use that perspective to sign a FA or two ?

All in all, I think it leads to a depressed and very conservative market, in terms of trades and signings. Jerry’s noise about bullpen help is going to distill down to the same tack of ‘little splash’ reclamation signings and low-risk/high upside rehab targets.

I hope I’m wrong, but I’m settling in for a very somnolent off season.

Right that’s a bit of a head scratcher. More veteran pillow contract then wise

I’m sure there will be contracts to sign maybe not any new record ones. But there still will be a World Series to win and the big markets are likely to still go for it.
