That's 4 guys for 3 spots, again not enough room.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 11, 2025 4:10 pmJP is the starter next year, then you have arroyo, young and Emerson to fill the infield. I'm down for that deal.Bil522 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 11, 2025 7:35 pmI think they re-sign Naylor for 4yr and $76million.
I think they trade Castillo to the Dodgers for OF Josue de Paula. Castillo offers gives the Dodgers something it has lacked for a long time...durability. De Paula gives the M's a high quality prospect that will control the strike zone, be a really good left handed hitter, and hit for power. The one time I saw him play, he reminded me of the former TB All Star Carl Crawford.
Those are the 2 moves I think they should do this offseason

Az. traded for Naylor from Cleveland during off season so I am sure they were not shopping himDanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Tue Aug 12, 2025 12:10 amIf you respond to a half read post then you run a high risk of making yourself look like a moron.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 11, 2025 11:46 pmStopped reading. All that matters is the team you take down the stretch. So, in 2025 not only did they surround Cal with offense, but they've put together one of the most exciting overall Mariners teams in franchise history.

You don't get it, so I'm done with you. Again, kudos to them for doing something at the deadline. Fuck them if they continue to go on the cheap and hope to hang close so they can strike gold at the deadline. You act as though this strategy works all the time. Two out of the past five years they've been able to add at the deadline. The other three years we were watching other teams in the playoffs. Not sure that is the best strategy.
You will defend everything they do no matter what. Good for you. But stop pretending like it doesn't matter how they start the season. All it would have taken this year was for someone else to sweeten the pot for Suarez, Naylor, or both...and we'd be running the same limp dick batting order out there right now as we did two weeks ago!
I'm fully aware that the Ms are one of the worst run franchises in the history of professional sports. But, I'm also fully aware that the current roster is as good as it's been since 2001. This isn't just Geno and Josh. Jerry put them into the position where they were just one or two bats away. He put them into a position where they had prospects available to make deadline deals and land the top bats available. He built the most exciting team in 20 years.
To repeat myself, for all we know they've been targeting Naylor, but AZ didn't want to deal him in the offseason. So, it could be a VERY SMART MOVE to not make any major moves last winter and wait for next winter. What if they sign Naylor this offseason? That's a lot better than making a move last winter and signing the next Mitch Garver.
You can't look at a single offseason in isolation. You have to look at everything from a big picture view. I never said it's ALWAYS good to stand pat during the winter. But, SOMETIMES it is.
You can be done with me all you want. But, I know what I'm talking about.

We’ll see if all 4 hit, if so, that’s a good problem. Also won’t be a problem until after next year at the earliest, and probably not until 2028HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 12, 2025 12:25 amThat's 4 guys for 3 spots, again not enough room.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 11, 2025 4:10 pmJP is the starter next year, then you have arroyo, young and Emerson to fill the infield. Oh and as a bonus Cecconi had a 6.66 ERA in 2024 and still has negative WAR.December 21, 2024: Josh Naylor Traded by the Cleveland Guardians to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Slade Cecconi.

Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 11, 2025 4:00 pmIn late July. Again, that is what I assume will happen again. They won't do jack diddly in the off season, they will hang around the last WC spot and then look to add a rental or two at the deadline. Pretending the team we are looking at now is what we had in March is fucking ridiculous. They did NOT add plenty of offense around Cal until their hands were forced at the deadline. I have a hard time imagining that many teams add a #4 and a #5 hitter in late July. The entire lineup changed with those moves.
Hats off to them for making those moves, as the only time we have made the playoffs is when they made a splash at the Deadline instead of selling off pieces with an eye for the future. But doing it again next year would be stupid. Add to the team during the winter and come into the Spring guns a blazing, instead of hovering around the middle and hoping something is available in late July.
take 20 homeruns away from Cal and they are still in the top 10 for homeruns. The narrative that the Mariners have a lousy offense is getting old, they have a decent offense, they did before they made those moves. That's why you add at the deadline. You don't do it with a lousy offense because you are not going to be able to really move it. But with an already decent offense you can continue to lengthen the lineup at the deadline and that's what they did. You have Young now hitting ninth with an OPS over 800.

FWIW Baseball Trade Values assigns Josue de Paula a surplus value of $52.1 million and Luis Castillo a negative value of $10.6 million.Bil522 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 11, 2025 7:35 pmI think they re-sign Naylor for 4yr and $76million.

The Dodgers might be wary of that $62.7 million difference.
