Rays bring Zunino back for $3mil which includes a $1mil buyout he had coming. A great defender and a guy that isn't exactly a light hitter, he strikes out most of the time, but if he makes contact they can really go far.

sounds like something from LL
The reunion with Zunino wasn’t necessarily the Rays not realizing what they had until it was gone, but more like standing in a barren toilet paper aisle and realizing it’s a four-pack of single ply, a deluxe 36-pack made of angel feathers or whatever is laying about. The Rays aren’t about to splurge on the nice stuff, so JT Realmuto is out, and what the Rays have laying around hasn’t seen action above Double-A.

WTF. I was looking forward to at least seeing him at least as a reserve. Here’s hoping someone picks him up.

If he could have maintained his 2019 numbers he would have been fine but a .278 OBP for a guy with no power does even cut it as a UT.

[RESPONDING TO A DISGRUNTLED ANGELS FAN]

I get it…The majority of Angels fans dislike Dipoto for the way he walked out on your team. He has a completely different concept on how to run an organization than Arte Moreno does. So I partially blame him for walking out like that.

Some of Seattle’s fan base and the rest of the League see it differently. I blame Moreno for hiring him in the first place and not letting the GM do his job. Dipoto was against signing Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols for example. Ut Moreno overuled him and pushed him to sign them. What have they gotten you?? You’ve had two major albatross contracts hanging over youre organization that you’re owner pushed for, for nothing. Dipoto disagreed with Moreno, and instead of finishing his contract he walked out.

Now I get bashing a GM who does not have success, especially recent ones. Hell, Seattle still talks about Jack Z and Bill “f’n” Bavasi, but at least they were still given full control of the team and can take full responsibility for their mistakes.

I blame Moreno more for hiring a GM that he was not on the same page with to begin with. At the end of the day, Dipoto’s hiring was on the ownership. Now I’m not saying Jerry was a golden goose while he was there, but he’s done some really good things while in Seattle. At the end if the day y’all are gonna have to move on eventually.

I mean, didn’t you just have a GM that was an epic failure more recently? And yet, the Dipoto bashing continues. Why, cause he walked out on the team because he didn’t see eye to eye with the ownership? Obviously he shit and got off the pot, rather than made y’all suffer through anymore of his moves. You should be thanking him for leaving early if anything.

So when I say whiners, I refer to the majority of the Angels fan base who cry about how horrible of a GM Jerry Dipoto is. He’s been great in Seattle in my opinion.

I wasn’t gonna respond to this, but I’ve said my peace and that’s where I’m at.

I was hoping to keep him too. Big Tim Lopes fan. But between him Haggerty and Marmolejos, sadly he would've been the first to go on the chopping block for me. I would've cut Dugger or Tapia before Lopes.

Wow, I assumed this guy was older. Kind of young to jump ship and retire just before a WS title.
Mariners Assistant GM Joe Bohringer Resigns
By Mark Polishuk | December 19, 2020 at 12:45pm CDT

Joe Bohringer has resigned his position as the Mariners’ assistant general manager in order to retire from baseball, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports (Twitter link). Bohringer will remain with the team until the end of the year “to help guide in the transition” to a new hire.

Bohringer was promoted the AGM job prior to the 2019 season, following three-plus years as special assistant to general manager Jerry Dipoto. Though Bohringer is only 50 years old, he has spent 31 seasons in pro baseball, dating back to his beginnings as an intern with the Pirates and Yankees front office while still a student at MIT. Bohringer’s resume includes front office and scouting positions with the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Cubs, and a prior stint with the Mariners as an area scouting supervisor from 2002-06 before returning to Seattle in 2015.

MLB Trade Rumors discussed the future of Texas outfielder Joey Gallo:

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/ ... l#comments

Would anyone trade a combined 12 years of team control in outfielder Taylor Trammell and righthander Sam Carlson for two years of Gallo and one year of the underwater contract of Jordan Lyles?

https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-33618/

In keeping the seat warm for top outfield prospects, the 27-year-old Gallo would offer lefthanded power bat while providing insurance against the suspect return of Mitch Haniger. The 30-year-old Lyles would provide a righthanded innings-eater until the arrivals of top pitching prospects.

Lyles won me over in 2019 after I attended this gem days after the righthander was added to my fantasy team:
