The Mariners had a six-game winning streak earlier this season (and another four-game winning streak).

Yes they have. But Wilson does it automatically without even considering late game match ups. And who would you rather have at the plate, regardless of matchups, Raley and Canzone, or Solano and Moore who shouldn't even be in the league anymore.

This team fails to make adjustments. Batting order. Staff. Coaching. So that’s why they are where they are.

If Wilson is going to PH based on R/L matchups, and do so automatically without fail which is what we've been seeing, why even have a manager? You could just use a robot. We had this same debate when Servais was here.
And to add, any team who's giving guys like Solano and/or Moore regular at bats is not a playoff team. Would you feel confident going into the playoffs with these guys on the roster?
Every game from now till the trade deadline is very crucial. If we're within a reasonable distance of Houston, or at the very least, in a position to grab one of the WC slots, the FO has said they'll be aggressive to help the team get over the hump. But if we're buried, it's going to just be the status quo. I do not want to see scrubs like Solano and Moore in these important games in high leverage situations. It's not rocket science.

It’s like the Mariners are being run by a schoddy AITraderGary wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 4:40 amIf Wilson is going to PH based on R/L matchups, and do so automatically without fail which is what we've been seeing, why even have a manager? Let's face it, Hancock sucks. He's in his third season and he's just getting worse. Too bad hes killed his trade values, the best we can do is stick him in the bullpen and hope he shines there.
This is where "protection in the lineup" is a myth. Julio has probably the third-best protection in baseball (after Judge and Ohtani) and he sucks.
And yes, Wilson is an idiot who pinch hits way too early and takes our better hitters out of the game and then when we need them later they're not available. Tonight especially sending Solano out there was a complete disaster.
Tomorrow we go for the series win which does us no good as the Asstros should sweep the Crockies.

So, Julio sucking proves protection is a myth, but Cal getting intentionally walked and pitched around doesn’t mean anything? This lineup is trash, that’s why protection isn’t a myth, there is NO protection. Julio is a below average hitter. Barry Bonds in his 70 plus HR prime batting behind him isn’t changing that. But you but a decent hitter behind Cal it might make managers think twice about just putting up four fingers.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 5:27 amLet's face it, Hancock sucks. Can't believe we didn't play small ball with Young. Guess I'm too old school.

I'm not basing this on one solitary player (C'mon Michael, give me a LITTLE creditMichael K. wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 2:11 pmSo, Julio sucking proves protection is a myth, but Call getting intentionally walked and pitched around doesn’t mean anything? The first time I realized that it was a myth was back in 1998 when the White Sox acquired Albert Belle who'd put up OPSs of 1.152, 1.091 and 1.033 in his previous three seasons with the Indians. The Sox batted him in front of Frank Thomas in his prime and everyone was man, Belle is going to REALLY mash now. So while Thomas did his usual thing and gave Belle all the "protection" in the world, Belle, with no injury issues, put up an OPS of .823
The next season Belle bounced back with an OPS of 1.055 Baseball is just random like that.
Juan Soto has batted in front of Aaron Judge and Pete Alonso the last two seasons, and he hasn't been any better than he was with the Nationals where he wasn't hitting in front of anybody like those two.
Can "protection" in the lineup help? One would think so in some cases. For example, Roger Maris batting in front of Mickey Mantle in 1961 probably helped when you looked at Maris' career arc. It's also possible that "protection" was more of a thing back then as pitching was nothing compared to what it is now.
With modern pitching as it is, pitchers don't just heave it down the middle to you because the next hitter is good, they still actually pitch, and the results are random.
