Next Franchise QB
Re: Next Franchise QB
I'm not sure Geno will be our starting QB next year.
I'm not even sure MM actually likes him. Look up the most recent interviews with Geno and you can tell he was a Grubb guy.
Then Geno said something like - "whether I'm here next year or not, (Grubb is great yada yada)."
But MM didn't agree with Geno, obviously.
When asked by Mike Salk if Smith would be the Seahawks’ starter next season. “Got no reason to say no, so I guess yeah,”
This morning Brock and Salk were talking to Matt Hasselbeck. Hass had nice things to say about Geno, but was interrupted by Salk,
who doesn't think Geno can take the team to the SB. Reading the room better, Hass retold the story of how he was fired by
the Seahawks because (they told him) the OC was out and they wanted to make a clean start. Hass was saying with Grubb gone,
they might be less likely to stick with Geno.
With Geno saying "whether I'm here next year or not" and MM saying "I guess yeah" - that tells me there's a tense contract
negotiation coming.

Of course Geno is going to say good things about his coaches. You expect him to come out and trash his bosses while he is trying to hang on to a job?trharder wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 8:11 pmI'm not sure Geno will be our starting QB next year.

No he doesn't have to say good things about his coaches. Everybody keeps putting this as if there's only two choices, saying good things or saying bad things. There's a third choice which is to say nothing. If Geno didn't like grubb the natural thing to do would be to keep quiet. That Geno stood there and went on in support of Grubb is totally Legitimate.
Re: Next Franchise QB
What Geno was saying was specifically about Grubb. Grubb's offense allowed Geno to be a statistical hero andDonn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:11 amNo he doesn't have to say good things about his coaches. achieve his $2 million bonuses. Grubb theoretically helped set Geno up for his biggest ever contract. I'm pretty sure
Geno is disappointed Grubb is gone. I'm ready for March already to see what happens.

He's standing there answering questions about his O.C. He cant just clam up. That would look even worse.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:11 amNo he doesn't have to say good things about his coaches. So you think we can't read too much into what Geno said about Grubb? It was just standard and required ass kissing?Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 4:28 pmHe's standing there answering questions about his O.C. He cant just clam up. Maybe that's right. But I think Grubb was Geno's daddy and now his daddy is gone. Geno may still end of the 2025 starter though.
MM says he is for now.
Re: Next Franchise QB
i think Grubb liked Geno (as most here do) as his best available option here this season, but pretty sure he wasnt enthralled with all the sacks he took instead of throwing the ball away, or so many checkdowns with receivers open downfield (refer to Millen's take on that). Grubb is an excellent schemer for downfield passing, and Geno is an excellent self-serve insurance agent to make sure he keeps his passing accuracy rate up by throwing short so often, and probably not as good at post-snap reads as Grubb is used to with Penix.trharder wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 5:11 pmSo you think we can't read too much into what Geno said about Grubb? “I want Geno to be here. I think he’s a heck of a player,” coach Mike Macdonald said Tuesday, speaking at an end-of-the-season press conference.

Re: Next Franchise QB
I don't love Geno. I don't love QBs in general, although I was fond of Johnny U and Fran Tarkenton and Stabler. To me, Geno is just our best option over the next year and maybe two. Rolling the dice on a new QB next year through draft or a signing with so many other moving parts throughout the organization is a lot to digest on a team that still managed to go 10-7.
Geno makes me scream at the TV when he doesn't go take off and slide for ten free yards -- his obsession with staying in a doomed collapsing pocket and trying to force a ball somewhere is terrifying. At least Russell tried to run somewhere before he got sacked, just as a basic human survival instinct. Some of the picks Geno threw this year were pure murder. Take away two or three of his most horrible crushing soul-scarring picks this year and maybe we are 11-6 or 12-5, fat and happy going into the playoffs.
The Grubb Conundrum, coaching philosophies, corporate shit, hot seats and continued oline woes forced our streaky hand this year. MM has some growing to do also, and with the next pieces on the coaching staff, an actual dedication to a top-tier oline, one more year with this emerging D, we should be good for a legit playoff run next season.
Sincerely,
Homer
