Moving on from JP after this season

Post by D-train » Thu Sep 11, 2025 6:19 pm

Do we really have to endure another year of JP? I am sure we will but how about this idea.

Do you think the D-Bags would trade Perdomo for Gilbert? One would think they'd go all-out to re-sign him. Not to mention the D-Bags would look at Gilbert's road stats this season and probably envision opposing batters blasting him all over their home park like Herman Munster.

I checked trade values site and Perdomo's value is really high. Seems weird because he doesn't have much of a track record.

If 💎backs were willing; maybe we'd throw in a 20th-30th rated prospect to close the deal. Although that may be steep because many other teams need pitchers which can inflate their value.
Perdomo is a switch-hitter which adds to his value. I haven't checked his splits though.
Primarily a SS, Geraldo can play 2B & 3B, too.
The trade value seems really steep to me. We'll have to let "Slick" Jerry negotiate better terms :) .

Perfect he can move to 3B or 2B when Emerson comes up.

btw some guy on my x chat predicted that Colt would be a Corey Seager. I check both of their stats in AA and Colt is at .276/.792.

Seager hit .352/.965 at the same age in AA. Whole different level.

Diamondbacks aren't trading Perdomo. I think they'll probably move Jordan Lawlar though.

I think the Yankees could decide to move on from Anthony Volpe, and they could view JP as a modest upgrade with one year left on his deal. The Dodgers are another one to watch as they may prefer to put Mookie back in the outfield. Or, they could put JP at 2B and move Tommy Edman back into the utility role.

The big question if you move JP is who do you play at SS? Could you go with Rivas for a year or more until Emerson is ready? Maybe Rivas playing for a minimum salary at SS helps free up the money to sign Naylor.

But my guess is they won't move JP. I think he's the shortstop next year and then we'll see after that what happens.

Dipoto considers JP to be one of the cornerstones of his "Rebuild" There is zero chance that they move on from him after this season.

Totally agree. Preserve and protect. And extend/resign if possible.

Dipoto has an weird man-crush on JP. Maybe it's because, as you say, he's a critical piece in the rebuild. Maybe it's just a pride thing on Dipoto's part.

As they say, pride goeth before the fall.

You are probably right but they would be trading him at peak value.
