12 team playoff?
Word is (according to KJR morning hosts) the NCAA is about to adopt a 12 team playoff format with the 5 power conf champions, the top non-pwr-conf team, and 6 at-large bids. The top 4 teams would have byes the first week and games between the other 8 would be played in the higher seed's stadium. Then the next week the 4 games would be bowl games at neutral sites and so forth.

Hilarious the put off going to eight for over a decade and then jump 8 and go to 12 but FAR better than four.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 2:31 pmWord is (according to KJR morning hosts) the NCAA is about to adopt a 12 team playoff format with the 5 power conf champions, the top non-pwr-conf team, and 6 at-large bids. Re: 12 team playoff?
I have been banging the drum for 10 or 12 teams for some time. Why? The NCAA loves the drama from their dumb ass selection committees. Shit, there was drama over the Women's College WS this year!
8 teams? Maybe a little drama over the 4 at large....but not a lot. No Byes, maybe some debate over which team gets the home game because they were the 4 seed. But, not much. 16 teams? Seriously? No byes and what Conference Champ is going to get screwed. Shit, three at large teams would get a home game.
10 teams? Oh God, imagine the debate over who has to do the play in? One at large doesn't have to play a play in? You KNOW it would have been an SEC team, and they would probably have more losses than the four teams that had to play the first weekend. But, the NBA has really driven interest with their play in games. Football would have had to be different, but 7 plays 10 and 8 plays 9 and you reseed them to the 7 and 8 seed. Then we are at 8 and the top 4 are at home or more likely a Bowl site. Plenty of drama, and really? Some good games.
12 is the best. Oh God, one Conference Champ is going to have to play the first weekend. BUT!? They get to make money with an extra home game, where the top ranked team sits home, advantage? Yes, but no $. Would you rather be the 4 seed or the 5 seed? The coach and the football fans want to be the 4 seed to ensure they make the final 8, but the University probably wants the gate money. Debate over which Conference Champ plays at home, Debate over who the 7 at larges are, did a small school get screwed, did a small school getting in screw a Power 5 team. Plenty of games, plenty of drama.
I heard some dipshits on the radio yesterday arguing against it and used last year's COVID bullshit season to talk about the bad matchups. It's fucking COVID you douche bags, the entire Pac 12 was ineligible and most of the Big 10. Go look at 2019.
LSU, Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma sit at home and wait to find out who they play.
12 seed Auburn at Oregon
11 seed Utah at Georgia
10 seed Penn St at Baylor
9 seed Florida at Wisconsin
Who the Hell isn't watching that? My guess? Auburn probably gets bumped for Boise St, since they were the highest seeded no Power 5 and 12 and 1, but who knows? Still, I am watching that all damn weekend, and the next weekend and the one after too!

Eight would have been ideal. Five major conference champions, three best at-large teams, no byes.

Yep, makes too much sense and there is no way any undefeated teams would get left out and no #9 team has a legit argument they would have had a chance at the title.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 5:59 pmEight would have been ideal. Re: 12 team playoff?
There is no way to know. No one thought Boise State would beat Oklahoma or Central Florida would beat Baylor and Auburn. I am sure there were lots of people that said a #2 seed would never lose in Basketball. Then? One lost, so they said, "Fine, but a #1 never will"D-train wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 7:23 pmYep, makes too much sense and there is no way any undefeated teams would get left out and no #9 team has a legit argument they would have had a chance at the title.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 5:59 pmEight would have been ideal. Shit happens, but who complains because we get more relevant football? Give me 12 teams, because it still gives us the drama and controversy, it is going to make the regular season more relevant, not less, and it will give me better football to watch in December and January. You have all of these Bowl games, and half the studs opt out anyway. No one is opting out of a playoff game.
If #16 plays #1 in October it is on College Gameday. But, we don't want to watch number 9 at number 8 in December? Bullshit. I do.

Re: 12 team playoff?
Yet Larry full on supported four teams and believes it was best. What a freaking dumbass. I am sorry, he looked out for the best interest of the Pac 12 about as well as Babs looked out for the best interest of the U of W athletic department!
Go televise more track and field competitions to fewer homes in the Nation, you freaking dumbass. I wonder how long it will take the new guy to realize he needs DirecTv more than they need him?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a DTV deal by year end.Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 2:02 pmYet Larry full on supported four teams and believes it was best. What a freaking dumbass. btw a like the 12 team playoff 1000x more than the 4 team. The preference for the 8 is more around my irrational OCD. lol
