Raymond Kerr LH Edwin Diaz?

Post by Hanjag » Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:07 am

From Prospect Insider: The way they are using him maybe the next Andrew Miller?
FRI: 2 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 3 SO
2019: 27 G, 79 IP, 74 H, 41 BB, 74 SO

Kerr is due a promotion. He’s been nasty for awhile now, allowing one earned run in his last 24.2 innings (since June 23). During that span he’s yielded 11 hits and eight walks, while whiffing 29. He’s often gone more than an inning — nine times in 13 outings — with eight of those going at least two innings.

From his mid season update:
Kerr has touched 99 mph and sits 94-97 with a 55-60 two-plane breaking ball at 78-80 mph and a 84-88 mph change with good arm speed, giving him three big-league offerings.

If his last 24 innings is an indicator of what to expect from him as a BP guy I think we have a Miller-esque, Bill Swift 2,3,4 WAR BP guy.

This is the 2nd thread I have started on Kerr one of my pet prospects that I now have.

I mentioned him in the minors thread. He caught my eye after a few good starts last year, but got off to a rough start this season. Since moving to the pen he's been borderline dominant. In his last 13 games, 1ER, 29 K 24.1 ip.

Apparently he's gaining good weight, and wants to gain another 20 lbs. Hopefully he moves up to Arkansas som and can join then for their playoff run.

He is due a promotion. However I like Sam Delaplane a whole lot better. Both should see the big leagues soon.

It feels a lot different having even our unknown prospects excelling.

We're so used to having even our best prospects fail that it feels like we can't trust the success.

Top 10 minor league system, this is what that feels like.

I mentioned it with Ian McKinney. He may not end up in Seattle or another mlb team, but his turnaround after joining Seattle is a good sign for Mariners and their development program imo. A lot of success for ML players

At this point I think it's fair to assume Art Warren kicked Jerry's puppy or pissed in his cornflakes

Im wondering of they are worried about his innings after an injury last year. Only pitched 15 last year and is at only 26 this year. Maybe they want to give him consistent work without overworking him. Easier to do that in Arkansas than Seattle.

Otherwise I have no idea why he hasn't gotten a promotion to Tacoma or Seattle.
