2nd biggest issue with huge room for improvement
2nd biggest issue with huge room for improvement
So how is it possible that our QB had the best completion % but we were 20th in third down conversions???
Answer: either the majority of his incompletions were on third down, he completed A LOT passes short of the line to gain and they had to punt or BOTH.
Stacy mentions two guys that could help with the third down conversion %. The third is Waldron. Stop calling plays that don't involve throwing the ball past the line to gain!!!!

I also found it interesting that Bumpus picked Cam Young as his guy he is most excited about. I mean he isn't a top pick but he isn't a 6th or 7th rounder either. He played in the SEC and weighs 315lb so not like the ignored the interior D line in the draft.

Some of it boils down to success on first and second down too, obviously. That is what is strange here....I remember several years where it seemed we were in third and long ALL THE DAMN TIME. I don't seem to remember it that way last year.

In a shuttle right now on the way to the dog show and we're driving right by Citi Field home of the Mets

are there numbers that back up the throwing the ball short thing? I know that was an issue with Russ, I don't question that for one second, but I feel like last year that improved a LOT.D-train wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 1:43 pmSo how is it possible that our QB had the best completion % but we were 20th in third down conversions???

This chart shows the last 3 games were horrible for whatever reason (30%), but the last game was 46%. The interesting thing about that is that means the second and third-to-last games had to have been just abysmal... but they won those two and lost the last.

I doubt it but what would be great is to be able to break down reasons for not converting on third down and manageable.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 8:58 pmare there numbers that back up the throwing the ball short thing? Re: 2nd biggest issue with huge room for improvement
I could be imagining things thru my homer colored glasses, but it seemed like they were much better at converting the convertible ones, but there were a bunch of holding calls, sacks and whatnot at bad times that made 3rd-and-3s into 3rd and 13s. Obviously there were plenty of incompletions and things, but just the normal amount. I'm just going off the amount of times that I screamed at the tv when they threw a 4 yard out on 3rd and 7, which happened a LOT during the later Russ years, and didn't feel like that much last year.D-train wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 9:07 pmI doubt it but what would be great is to be able to break down reasons for not converting on third down and manageable.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 8:58 pmare there numbers that back up the throwing the ball short thing? Holding calls. Good point. Hopefully that improves as well.
