Tie Breakers

Post by Captain 97 » Tue Dec 24, 2024 6:00 pm

Been playing around with the ESPN playoff machine.
Interestingly enough the Hawks can lose to the bears and still make the playoffs if the Rams Lose to the Cards. This is because losing their final 2 games would drop the Rams divisional record to 3-3 and The Hawks beating the Rams would put them at 4-2 in the division.

Still a glimmer of hope if both the Hawks and Rams win this week but its going to take a lot of upsets to shift the strength of schedule in the Hawks favor. Here is a scenario that could work things in the Hawks favor...

Week 17
Seattle over Chicago
Denver over Cincinnati
Green Bay over Minnesota
Miami over Cleveland
Atlanta over Washington
Detroit over San Fransisco

Week 18
Seattle over LA
Atlanta over Carolina
Tampa Bay over New Orleans
Miami over NY
Denver over KC
Chargers over Las Vegas
Lions over Vikings
Cardinals over San Fransisco

That's three moderate upsets in Week 17 and a major upset in week 18. Plus you can't afford any of the other games being an upset in the wrong direction.

For the entire off season I am going to lament the Giants and Rams losses earlier in the season. If we were going to miss the playoffs again, I now wish we had lost one or two to AZ, lost the 49er game and maybe even one more. This 8 and 9 win bullshit that has you home in January but drafting late is shitty.

I think the obvious comparison is when Pete came in and took over for the retard Jim Mora.
The team was better, but not a world beater right away. It took a minute.
This year's team is just good enough that it's easy to forget it was likely going to take a minute.
I'm not saying we don't have a right to complain, but the glass is half full.
I will barely blink if the Rams kick the shit out of AZ and eliminate us.
This team had their chance and didn't get it done. It happens.

The difference is that Geno is a better QB than Tarvaris was. The D is better now too. So are the RBs and WRs. Heck, everything is better now except the O line.

Geno is only marginally better than Tardvaris was.
The O-line was not better in 2010.
The defense and Leon Washington defeated the Chargers without the offense.
The 2010 defense was the best part of the team.

LDE Chris Clemons 29 6 16 11.0 sacks, 0 interceptions, 1 fumble recovered
LDT Brandon Mebane 25 3 12 1.0 sacks, 0 interceptions, 0 fumbles recovered
RDT Colin Cole 30 6 11 1.0 sacks, 0 interceptions, 0 fumbles recovered
RDE Kentwan Balmer 24 2 11
LLB David Hawthorne 25 2 16 0.0 sacks, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovered
MLB Lofa Tatupu 28 5 16 1.0 sacks, 1 interception, 0 fumbles recovered
RLB Aaron Curry 24 1 16 3.5 sacks, 0 interceptions, 0 fumbles recovered
LCB Marcus Trufant 30 7 16 0.0 sacks, 1 interception, 2 fumbles recovered
RCB Kelly Jennings 28 4 14 0.0 sacks, 1 interception, 0 fumbles recovered
SS Lawyer Milloy 37 14 16 4.0 sacks, 0 interceptions, 0 fumbles recovered
FS Earl Thomas 21 Rook 16 0.0 sacks, 5 interceptions, 0 fumbles recovered

I'm confused, the comparison is to 2010? Hasselbeck was QB. The difference was at wide receiver wasn't it? Pete did significantly improve on Mora's final season, particularly st the end.
