Metcalf said he and Lockett had long watched film on their own and passed along suggestions to the coaches Tuesday when the week’s game plan was formulated.

Metcalf said their suggestions appeared to be ignored.

He said it came to a head during a Thursday night home loss to the 49ers in October.

In an incident that was noted at the time, Metcalf grabbed the headset to talk to Grubb in the coach’s booth.

Metcalf said he told Grubb that having played against the 49ers he knew how they planned to defend on third downs — “sitting at the sticks,” as he said, meaning at the first-down marker.

“I was like, ‘OK on third down we have to run past him early because they are just going to sit at the sticks,'” he said.

After a third-and-short pass play that the 49ers broke up, Metcalf grabbed the headset to tell Grubb: “Can we please run by these guys? They are sitting at the sticks on third down.”
Metcalf spoke of that interaction at the time.

In the “Get God Pod,” he indicated it had a lingering impact.

“That was the last week me and Lock did that [sending in suggestions],” Metcalf said. “The last week me and Lock did any extra game planning.”

Metcalf said it also hurt him to see the team phase out Lockett as the year wore on, which led to Lockett’s release two weeks ago on the same day Metcalf’s trade request was revealed.
He also mentions that the message had changed from Pete. Which doesn't really bother me, but....

So why did he demand a trade AFTER Grubb was fired.

Because he is a genius? I thought that was weird as well...unless he thinks this is MM's team and it's MM's way? Seems to be the case, IMO.

Yeah I thought of that right after I posted.

Maybe he was tired of having a new OC every year.

That's what I read, he wanted an extension and he wanted it now
Breer is reporting that Metcalf wanted a contract extension immediately. The Seahawks typically conduct such business later in the summer, around training camp and the preseason. The Steelers awarded Metcalf with a five-year, $150 million extension upon his arrival

From SI:

The veteran wide receiver spoke candidly about his choice to leave the organization that drafted him back in 2019, admitting that he felt like an "outsider" in his final season in 2024.

"We were the only six people left from that 2019 team, the team that felt that real camaraderie in the building," Metcalf said. "Now when you start switching out OCs, switching out head coaches, you start getting different messages from what you're used to. The Pete [Carroll] messages were gone. So now it was just six outsiders trying to get a new message."

As Sibelius mentioned, I think he was tired of the coaching carousel. And now they've got even more coaches, assistants and specialists... I'm not a coach and I don't own an NFL team, but it all seems pretty convoluted to me. I guess we'll find out.

OC - Kubiak
Offensive Line - Benton
Offensive Assistant - Byrne
Run Game Coordinator/Senior Offensive Advisor - Dennison
Offensive Passing Game Coordinator - Peetz
Offensive Assistant/Quality Control - OL - Odom
Run Game Specialist/Assistant Offensive Line - Outten
Running Backs - Polamalu
Assistant Wide Receivers - Prince

Yep, because Breer reported it, might as well not listen to what the player actually said. Maybe DK is lying, but maybe Breer just reported some shit he heard and not from a great source?

People want to act like the Geno, DK, Lockett era was some fond time for the organization and are genuinely sad this time period is coming to an end.

I don't get it. It was terrible football to watch.

Geno: Average at best. Tantrums when things weren't going well. Limited ceiling. Sat in the pocket for way too long with a bad internal clock. Didn't have great for feel pressure when it was around his feet.

DK: Talent other worldly. Tantrums when things weren't going well. Penalty liability in key moments. Despite speed, seldom got separation on routes. Issues fumbling that cost games. Took routes off.

Lockett: Decent in the Russ era but big fall off the last 3 years. Started diving after catches to avoid getting hit. Can't block on the exterior due to size which limited the offense. Caught more balls underneath when he was a vertical threat in his early career.

Who on earth wanted any of that to continue and is actually sad that it's ending? Get a grip...

Valid points. I don't disagree. I was not upset at all about Geno and DK. Lockett is one of my favorites of all time. I still think of how electric he was in the return game his first couple of seasons.
