It's reasonable to conclude that Wilson had direction from the front office on the use of platoons for Raley and Canzone. I doubt it was 100% prescriptive to the point where he had no latitude whatsoever, but obviously they signed Refsnyder for a reason and they expected the manager to be on board with that. I don't really have a problem with that and I would expect similar alignment with Kanzler or anyone else they hired for the Field Manager role.
The issue is two fold. Canzone hit lefties just fine in 2025 and then proved he could rake against them once they game him a chance last season. First of all Ref was a totally unnecessary waste of a roster spot for a part time DH. Money that could have been used on a reliever instead. Then once it was clear that he was cooked in early May not only did they keep running him out there, they idiotically hit him LEADOFF and kept him on the roster for TWO months too long just like they always do with these bums to try to squeeze blood from a turnip,...

Alignment is one thing. What we do, regardless of if it works or not? Is fucked up.

They trade for and OF and the first interview with the GM he mentions how he and Jerry are going to go meet with Dan to discuss where he will bat in the lineup! Can you imagine that conversation coming from Gillick before he goes to meet with Sweet Lou? Sure, different times....but come one.

I can't imagine the line of actual proven managers that want to work for this organization is very long.
I think you have this romantic notion of what a field manager is supposed to be that is largely out of date. I don't think there are any managers like Lou Piniella anymore. It's a different, more analytically driven era. Front offices are driven by analytics more than ever before, and managers are expected to be on board with that on the execution side.
Good sound analytics are good. The shit show Analytics the M's use are worthless.. Pretty Simple.
