this got me thinking - in a situation like this where one or both teams kind of painted themselves into a corner so HAVE to make a trade, do GMs try to really stick it to the other team, or do they still try to make it reasonably fair, so they don't burn future bridges? Like say you have a team that really wants to dump a guy that would normally be worth a 2nd rounder, but they have to get rid of him and everybody knows it. If you're another team, do you offer maybe a 3rd or 4th or try to lowball with a 7th? Obviously "it depends" but my question is generally, do teams think about the repercussions of taking advantage of another team? Like, I wonder if we can't even talk to the Broncos about trades any more.

Well, if Rodgers doesn't play enough snaps to make this a 1rst round pick, then the Packers still got off pretty good. I'd say that haul for a guy that wasn't going to play for them this year anyway is actually not bad at all. Rather different situation than RW's, not to mention? I imagine that the RW trade has changed things a bit around the league. May very well have some impact into why Lamar can't seem to get traded. Of course, if he had an agent? My guess is Lamar would have a contract in Baltimore right now.

I consider this as a 3-way trade between the Jets, Packers, and Rodgers. Rodgers likely required a renewed contract before he would accept any deal. The amount of Rodger's contract effectively comes at the expense of both teams post signing; in terms of draft pick value for the Packers and monitary for the Jets.

In Wilson's case, there was no request from Wilson to renew his contract ahead of the deal. Or if there was, the Hawks were not going to play that game. This kept the deal primarily head's up between Denver and Seattle.

No, but in hindsight the decision by GB to sign Rodgers was a good move. They could have just let him walk.

At least they get something for him now. And more importantly, get rid of him.
