What's amazing about this is that Holmgren wouldn't throw a screen pass if you paid him a zillion dollars, so this has been going on for quite some time.
I can't remember how many times Holmgren would be predictable on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1, and would it would drive me insane.

Doubt it came down to a couple of players. Screens are run basically to take advantage of an overly aggressive defense. Football really is about about that coordination between players. A successful screen has to be up there with the most complicated wouldn't it?

I would normally agree, but this defense seemed more hesitant last year than overly agressive. I think the LB play just sucked. Sorry, but think back to all the Cody Barton hate on here last year, and the constant videos posted of that dude just flat out being bad. Brooks wasn't a lot better either. I agree, let's hope that Bobby and Bush is more than a Porn Spoof of the Brady Bunch!

For all the hype Holmgren received, his play-calling was pretty weak.

My biggest complaint with him was he had a road grading O Line and an MVP candidate at RB, and all he wanted to do was make Matt a Pro Bowler. Imagine if PC had THAT offense? We beat the Steelers by 28 points with PC and Bevell running that offense.

Agreed. I was at that wildcard game between the Rams and SEA in January of 2005. Alexander finished second in rushing that year, 1 yard behind Curtis Martin. He was money in the red zone. So what happens in that game? Alexander finishes with 40 measly yards on 15 carries! Absolutely brilliant on Holmgren's part.

In addition, Holmgren brought in Jerry Rice. And Rice started that game but they never threw the ball to him. Not once. Again, brilliant.

This game (and subsequent loss) sealed it for me. Right then and there, I knew that Holmgren was an overrated turd.

You mentioned the loss to the Steelers. And then him and Heckert were hired to resurrect the Browns. How did that turn out?

Let's not forget that Holmgren also said that he would avoid players of questionable character. Then he promptly drafted bums like Koren Robinson and Jerramy Stevens.

Holmgren... useless.
