Probably partially true, but I think the big problem is losing Dissley, Goodwin and to a lesser degree Eskridge. There have been a LOT of plays where Geno looked bad because somebody ran the wrong route, and that happens a lot less when all his weapons are available. He is at his best when he's spreading the ball around, taking advantage of the weak parts of the defense... it's a lot harder when you have DK, Lockett, and... Cade Johnson and Tyler Mabry.

That's a great point. As good as DK and Lockett have been, as well as Parkinson and Fant, we are getting pretty damn thin when it comes to weapons. That is actually something I hadn't really considered over this stretch of pretty bad football we have played. The unfortunate problem is, that is the game of football. The Niners lost their starting RB in week one this year, and lost Debo for about a month. We have got to get better depth, and do we accomplish that by paying the QB? Maybe we can add that many quality players in the draft, but as good as last year's draft was? It's a lot to ask to count on that many first and second year players next year, isn't it? If we really want to improve we basically have to be playing Rookies in the interior of both lines.

I think Green Bay is a good example of that over the last 10 years. Pay your QB LOTS of money, but no weapons around him. As a result, no championships.

It is certainly very interesting to think about the teams that have resigned its high priced veteran QB and won a SB. Just as interesting are teams that bring in a high priced proven signal caller onto a team loaded with personnel and their success rates.

Successful examples are few in the former and include names like, Brady (NE only), Roethlisberger, Montana, and E. Manning, all of whom are HoF QBs. In the latter of the high-priced QBs you'll find P. Manning, Brady, and Stafford.

I hope Geno can pull up his big boy britches if he does get resigned to a substaintial deal.

It's got to be the right guy. The Chiefs paid Mahomes, and because of that had to let Hill walk. Mahomes was actually better this year than last year. I am not sure there are very many QBs that could say that. I think if you take Diggs out of Buffalo? Allen takes a step back. Same thing if you take Chase out of Cincy. They weren't quite as explosive this year while he was out. No knock on Allen or Burrow, but Mahomes is something else. I think it also says an awful lot for Bienemy and Reid.

After looking at the 9ers yesterday, I now have a different take on Geno. The guy outperformed all of our expectations and will be looking at more money in one year than the $17 million he has made so far in his entire career. And it is well deserved. But I think I'd sign Lock and give the reigns to him. Why? Because with the money Geno is going to get, I think I'd rather sign a couple of FA D-linemen. Then use our draft picks to concentrate on defense unless one of the top two QB's are available with our first pick. Variations on this are many, but I'd let Geno walk and use the money elsewhere.

I'm not sure it's one or the other. A QB is one dude. A defense is 11 dudes. Unless you mean what to do with the 5 pick.
I'd be surprised if Pete and JS draft a QB at 5. I would like to see this be a defense heavy draft for the Seahawks.
And paying Geno doesn't stop you from drafting defense.

100% on all of that. Load up on defense and sprinkle in a stud interior O-lineman or two. This team is strong on the perimeter and weak up the middle on both sides of the ball. DT, MLB, C, OG are the biggest needs (+QB, which I assume will be Geno). Depth everywhere else.
