Who White? Actually White doesn't swing out of the zone unless he has started to recently. He's been pretty displined about what he swings at, just can't hit it

Not saying he never swings out of the zone, but relatively speaking his displine is not bad, that doesn't seem to be at the root of his issues
.White swung at 28.5% of pitches out of the strike zone (O-Swing). The league average O-Swing percentage in 2019 was 31.6. His Z-Swing percentage (pitches in the strike zone) was 63.5%, while the league average in 2019 was 68.5%. White swung at 43.8% of pitches seen; the 2019 league average of 47%.

Did I say swinging out of the zone is an issue for White all of the time? No.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 5:56 amNot saying he never swings out of the zone, but relatively speaking his displine is not bad, that doesn't seem to be at the root of his issues

I said it was a problem with 2 strikes.
Not only that, but doing so swinging absolutely out of his ass.

Well if the issue was swinging out of the zone with two strikes that might not be so bad. White generally swings in the zone better than average but he still can't seem to hit the friggin ball

Bring up Walton, Filia, Cowan, Dillon Thomas, anyone. Worse thing that happens is they stuck too and White gets a chance to figure things out in Tacoma.Thepeelsessions wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 5:05 amThere's a reason why Marmolejos spent 9 years in the minors before ever being called up. He barely hit .200 last year. White is a shame. Decent money contract and never saw Tacoma. He was definitely rushed. We can only hope he's fixable. But who would they replace him with?seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 4:52 amAdd Murphy to that list.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 4:49 amMarmalejos and White are an absolute embarrassment on this club and should never play again this season.
It's going to be a quiet plane ride back to Seattle tonight.
Murphy and Torrens are both trash. They make me miss Narvaez. Hell, I miss John Jaso.

And I'll ask again, do you know why that is?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:10 amWell if the issue was swinging out of the zone with two strikes that might not be so bad. White generally swings in the zone better than average but he still can't seem to hit the friggin ball

He is swinging for the fences seemingly wayyyy out of balance on most every pitch thrown at him. Hence my comment that the M's have ruined him. The guy doesn't know how to simply put a ball in play anymore. With 2 strikes it's worse cause teams just throw him a pitch with some movement off the plate and he misses it by a foot cause he's trying to pull it 500 ft.
I said this the other day, whoever worked with him on his approach needs to be fired. They ruined a perfectly good contact hitter w. stellar defense by trying to turn him into this distance-craving monster.
White could have been a .280/.350/.450 1B and nobody would be complaining considering the D he plays. He was a great contact hitter coming out of college and they felt he needed to add more power... now he can't do anything at the plate... fucking morons.

Well yeah, the deal is swing plane. All the rage, upward trajectory on a ball low in the zone. Probably every team is preaching that, has been. Pitchers have adjusted, keep the ball up. White could be struggling with that along with most other ML hitters. His struggling could be more pronounced being fresh

I need to get it off my chest, though. Seeing the complete incompetence tonight just makes me more pissed off at the stunt Servais pulled last night. Just ridiculous. I can't tell if the pen just sucks and was overachieving, or they're just taxed with pitching so many innings lately with the pen starts. Either way, it's gross.
I don't think it can be understated just how important Edgar was the the hitting development of this team the last few years. There's a 40 years in the wilderness sized gap between him and Tim freaking Laker.

That's been very true with our guys, I haven't seen any of them even be able to touch 92 MPH fastballs that are up in the zone at all, just nothing but whiffs and foul-backs.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:44 amWell yeah, the deal is swing plane.
