Jeff Mathis has never been an everyday player. The most games he has played in a season is 94 way back in 2008. He has only had 250 AB's once (also in 2008). He is averaging 59 games played and 171 ABs per year for his career. Its still pretty remarkable to see a guy have a 15 year career with a .556 OPS though. I bet Rick Rizz would just rave about his framing skills if he was on the M's.

Poor Mike, I can relate.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 5:27 pmAfter his best season in 2017, that's where Zunino should have been in the position where he could get himself a contract paying him close to ten million a year as at that point he was that valuable. Instead, in his sixth year he made 2.9 million and this year he's making 4.4. million. It's possible I'm being a bit ignorant, but considering he's not going to command much of salary next year (he's on a one-year contract), he might well have shortchanged himself out of a LOT of money. Maybe he should have hired Davis' agent.
Anyone can have sympathy for the downtrodden.

Did you play in Reno a weekend ago or so? I heard Matt Barnes on ESPN radio saying he was there and that his team won their division. The team I used to play on was down there.....lost three and had to head home!DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 6:03 pmFor one season Kevin Kouzmanoff, who while still an active major league player played with my league softball team (his brother was on our team), in his first four seasons was worth 7.7 bWAR which made him an above-average player, primarily defensively at third base. However, in his first three years he made a total of about 1.2 million and while he made about 7.9 million in his fourth and fifth seasons, he hurt his back in his fifth season and was essentially finished. He made about nine million in a career which probably carried a value at the time of, what, close to 25 million? That's a lot of bananas to leave up in the tree.

SSUSA has an annual tournament there called Rock-N-Reno. This year's was about five weeks ago. I've played in it a few times, most recently in 2017, but for most of my teams it's too close to fly to and too far to drive to (9 hours). I love playing there, especially since it's at 5K altitude.
What's the name of your team? I might know of them from national tourneys.

Team name now is Skangers. Don't ask, you don't want to know! Haha.

Oh, I've heard of that, it's a big big big weekend all-nighter tournament. No senior (over 40) division though. Too bad you missed it, the Shadow Park complex is in a really nice area in Sparks, and Reno in general is surprisingly a fun place, plus Lake Tahoe's just down the road.

Too many injuries...I haven't played in a couple of years. Broken down old body, coaching softball and a son that plays baseball all Spring and Summer all over the State made the decision to hang them up pretty easy.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 9:21 pmOh, I've heard of that, it's a big big big weekend all-nighter tournament. Of course, they won D State last year! I have a couple of third place finishes, a 3rd in Regionals and a couple of top Ten Nationals, but never won the State crown. I was pretty jealous!

It's kind of humbling to think about just how good you need to be in order to hit .170 at the MLB level. Chris Davis would still look like Babe Ruth versus minor league pitching at some level. Years ago I saw Domingo Ramos playing at Portland [after several years as a weak hitting 25th man at the MLB level]. He looked like a man playing against boys that night against AAA pitching, everything he hit was either off the walls or over the wall. If that was your only impression of Domingo Ramos you would think he was a future "Can't Miss Prospect" at the MLB level.
