Wow, Baines had two seasons in his entire career with 3+ WAR. Talk about longevity and politics getting you in the HOF through the back door.
Baines' career is no better than several "Bee Plus Type Players" who didn't quite make it in.

Baines basically got in because of reinsdorf and larussa. Larusso is probably pissed at Lou beat in the 1990 World Series and voted against him for it.

Leave it to MLB and the HOF to fuck up Edgars introduction.... While he was being introduced, the television audience was treated to a video presentation showing highlights of ....... Reggie Jackson. The only fuck up of the intros.... and it had to be Edgar.
On the other side.... with 70,000 in attendance, it appears that between 10 and 20 thousand of them are from the Northwest.... Edgar fans are everywhere, only outnumbered by those for Mariano Rivera and the cheers for Edgar are only exceeded by those for Mariano.

I drove from NYC to Cooperstown and it's a fairly easy Drive. Amazing that there are close to as many Edgar fans as Mariano fans. Given the travels disparity

Nice job by Haladay's widow.... strong woman who provided one of the more memorable HOF moments... Glad for her family, the Phillies and the Blue Jays.

Great, great speech by Harold Baines.... and a great tribute to his wife and father.... he has nurtured what appears to be a tremendous family.

Edgar's speech? He hit it to all fields, never missed a pitch, and then finished by hitting it out of the park. Perfect ...

Edgar and Mariano are probably getting close to being the last HOF's to be with one team their entire careers....Jeter and Trout are about the only ones that spring to mind.

Votto and Pedroia. Pedroia has over 50 WAR but he won't make it unless he can get healthy and productive again. Doubtful.

Felix and Kershaw are the only two pitchers with a shot.

I spent all day grooving on this, watching the speeches, thinking to myself ‘...how many times did I see this guy step to the plate ?’ I dragged out my scorecard from his last game and held it in my hand as he spoke. Thinking back to sitting in the very last row of the field seats along the third base line under the second deck (with the aluminum flashing right behind that everyone including me pounded into dented cacophony with every chance of a rally), only to see part (everyone jumped up) of ‘The Double’.

Much as I respect them, I don’t care about Mario, Baines, Moose. Like many of you, as with Junior, I saw Edgar from beginning to end, and it gives my life some additional richness to know I saw greatness from its start to its finish.

A beautiful day. A beautiful player.
