Why no 60 day dl for Felix and Mitch?

Post by Juliooooo » Wed Jul 24, 2019 6:15 pm

At this point it's clear that both will be out until long after 60 days from their original injury. Is there something I don't know about the 60 day dl that prohibits the Mariners from using it for these 2 rather than dfa guys like Markel?

They are probably saving moving Felix to the 60 day IL for Strickland's coming of the 60 day IL.

I don't get why they don't do it now, and wait to DFA Markel.

Not a big deal, because I don't think Markel is much more than bullpen fodder, but it just confuses me. Haniger has been out since June 6, and clearly won't be back in Seattle in the next 2 weeks. Why isn't he on the 60 day DL? I was just curious if there was something I didn't understand that kept the Mariners from wanting to do that.

I've seen a few moves by Dipoto where he could've placed someone on the 60 day IL, or he didn't need to select (add) someone to the 40 man. I'm not sure why he does that. Perhaps he thinks that there is a very good possibility of the player making it through waivers, or he feels that is a way of getting a DFA trade. I'd say the former.

I wonder if he thinks anybody will notice his oddball moves or lack their of. He certainly knows his bosses won't and probably doesn't care if any fans do.

At this point I would think Jerry should selling high and buying low on just about any move he makes, unless it's for salary relief, which we can then use in the future for the free agent wire.

Hey you could give stock market advice as well. Just sell high and buy low. :) Any money saved this year will just be used to off set the lower attendance. Not like they have a giant FA piggy bank they are filling up right now for 2021-2022.
