What are the chances the Ducks land the #2 OT prospect, rated #14 overall HS player in the nation?

https://www.oregonlive.com/recruiting/2 ... story.html

Unfortunately, with the Jimmy Lake era upon us, the window of UW being competitive for Pac12 north titles is just about over.

I guess UW is not genuine and don't have a brotherhood going on.   What a crock of horse shit.

The wait is over.

The hope has faded.

J.T. Tuimoloau will not be a Washington Husky.

On the Fourth of July, Tuimoloau — the No. 1 player in the 2021 class — announced he will enroll at Ohio State.

The 6-foot-5, 277-pound Eastside Catholic defensive lineman chose the Buckeyes over fellow finalists Washington, Oregon and USC. He declined to sign a national letter of intent in December and February in order to take official visits this summer, after a nearly 15-month recruiting dead period was lifted. He subsequently completed official visits to his final four schools before canceling an Alabama visit and announcing his decision.

“We went out there (to Ohio State for an official visit) as a family — me, mom, dad, and my little brother. For it being the first time in Columbus, we didn’t know what to expect. But it just felt like home,” Tuimoloau said on CBS HQ, surrounded by family members. “The people were very genuine. And with the players, it felt like a brotherhood.”

Unfortunately for Husky fans, this is an all-too-familiar feeling. UW managed to sign four of the top eight players in the state in 2021, but five-star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka — the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation, No. 2 player in Washington and No. 8 overall prospect — enrolled early at Ohio State. Four-star Tacoma linebacker Julien Simon (USC) and Kennedy Catholic wide receiver Junior Alexander (Arizona State) landed at Pac-12 competitors.

In the past 10 classes, the Huskies have held onto just two of seven five-star recruits from within their own borders — Sam Huard in 2021, and Kennedy Catholic outside linebacker Sav’ell Smalls in 2020.

Brandon Huffman, 247Sports’ national recruiting editor, tweeted Sunday that Tuimoloau is “hands down the best recruit I’ve seen in the state of Washington” in his 19 classes on the job.

Another national recruit from Eastside Catholic, four-star 2020 wide receiver Gee Scott Jr., signed with Ohio State despite a late offer from UW. In recent years, the Crusaders have produced a slew of blue-chip recruits — including 2020 safety Ayden Hector (currently in transfer portal), 2020 running back Sam Adams II (UW), 2020 tight end D.J. Rogers (Texas Christian), 2017 tight end Hunter Bryant (UW) and 2016 linebacker Brandon Wellington (UW).

Meanwhile, UW’s 2021 class — which was ranked sixth in the Pac-12 and 36th nationally by the 247Sports Composite — did include Huard, Kennedy Catholic’s five-star quarterback, O’Dea four-star offensive lineman Owen Prentice, Kennedy Catholic four-star wide receiver Jabez Tinae and four-star Bethel linebacker Will Latu. But it might ultimately be marred by its misses.

And no miss was bigger — literally and figuratively — than Tuimoloau.

His departure stings in more ways than one. UW also was the first school to offer Tuimoloau in two separate sports, furnishing a football offer three games into his freshman season in 2017 before adding a basketball offer in May 2020. He later added football offers from Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and more.

Of course, the attention was warranted.

“As great of a player as he is, he’s just as great of a kid off the field — an outstanding student, a leader in his community, a leader on his campus, a leader in his church,” Huffman said on CBS HQ on Sunday. “He’s everything you want a guy to be off the field.

“But then when you get him on the field, you see why he is an elite pass-rusher — a wire-to-wire No. 1 player on 247Sports. When we did our first ranking in the summer of 2018, he was at No. 1. When we did the final ranking, he was at No. 1. And every subsequent ranking in the middle, he was No. 1. He’s an elite five-star player, but really an elite five-star person off the field as well — and much of that credit goes to his family and his support system around him.”

Added 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong: “This is a prospect you obviously wait on, one of the more special defensive linemen to come out in the last five to 10 years.”

The Huskies, meanwhile, signed a trio of three-star defensive linemen in 2021: Kuao Peihopa, Voi Tunuufi and Siaosi Finau. They earned a commitment from 2022 four-star Salt Lake defensive tackle Ben Roberts last week as well.

And yet, the Evergreen State’s next five-star standout — 2022 Rainier Beach offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. — is currently uncommitted.

In the recruiting world, hope fades, then regenerates.

And while one wait ends, another continues.

Since 2005 here's the list of 4 star or higher rated players who left the state of WA.

Jonathan Stewart 5* - went to Oregon, drafted in the 1st round by Carolina... had a great NFL career.

Anthony Felder 4* - went to Cal, solid player for the Bears but went undrafted.

Leon Jackson 4* - went to Hawaii, seldom used RB who went undrafted... now coaches Pasco's HS team.

Taylor Mays 5* - went to USC, was a star in college and went in the 2nd round of the draft, fell off fast and was out of the NFL in no time.

Stephen Shilling 4* - went to Michigan, was mediocre at best, drafted in the 6th round and bounced around practice squads.

Deandre Coleman 4* - went to CAL, was mediocre, went undrafted and signed as a udfa.

Jake Heaps 5* - went to BYU, was horrible and transferred to 2 other schools, went undrafted and was a practice squad guy for years, now has his own radio show on KJR.

Josh Garnett 4* - went to Stanford, was very good and was drafted in the 1st round, was horrible in the NFL.

Zach Banner 4* - went to USC, was only mediocre at SC and drafted in the 4th round as a result, has stuck around the NFL, plays for Pittsburg.

Kivarae Russell 4* - went to Notre Dame and was pretty darn good, drafted in the 3rd round, was the highest drafted player to get cut in the 2016 draft before the season started  and ended up out of football shortly after.

Cedric Dozier 4* - went to CAL and then transferred to KState, had a poor college career, went undrafted.

Max Browne 5* - went to USC and was dreadfully bad, transferred to Pitt and was still bad, tried to follow Heaps into media but it hasn't worked out.

Myles Jack 4* - went to UCLA and had a great career as a 2 way player, was drafted in the 2nd round because of a knee injury, has been solid but nothing special for the Jags.

Devante Downs 4* - went to CAL and had a solid career, was drafted in the 7th round and is still floating around NFL rosters.

Brett Rypien 4* - went to Boise St where he was solid but went undrafted. Has started some in the NFL but looks like a career backup.

Jacob Eason 5* - went to UGA where he started as a frosh but struggled, transferred to UW after an injury, had a decent junior season at UW, was drafted in the 4th round and is the backup in Indy.

Foster Sarrell 5* - went to Stanford, sucked for 4 years, injury plagued, went undrafted, signed as a UDFA in Baltimore.

Connor Weddington 4* - went to Stanford, was good initially and then tailed off, went undrafted, signed as a UDFA in Seattle.

Treshaun Harrison 4* - went to Florida St. where had average production, transferred to lowly Oregon St. where he's still had average production.

Darien Chase 4* - went to Nebraska, got no playing time, transferred to Portland State.

Gee Scott 4* - went to Ohio St. where he's gotten no playing time, is switching to Tight End cause that's a good sign for a 4* wideout.

Levi Rogers and DJ Rogers are are incompletes.

Wow, thanks for that. So I was right. Jonathon Stewart and maybe Myles Jack were the only ones with NFL success. The Curse lives! lol

When will they learn.

Brings up two questions. Should we care about losing in State? Do you think these kids that got drafted look at it as a failure? All they wanted was to get drafted and get paid. Many of them might see five or six zeros on a check and think they made it.

Out of the 22 guys listed, there is Stewart, Jack, 3 guys that got a few decent paychecks and 17 that didn't get shit other than maybe UDFA signing bonus which probably was enough to buy them a 2015 Hyundai a, a wardrobe upgrade and maybe a 5 day vacation to a 3 star resort in Cabo...

Should we care about losing in-state talent? Well, UW isn't drawing the kind of talent out of California that they did under Don James so yeah, i think we need to keep every last local kid even if there's a less than 50% chance that they'll contribute. If it wasn't for the state of Hawaii UW would have been in serious straits the past decade or so.

The past decade we have survived because of Hawaii? We won the North in 16, 17, 18 and 20. Yes, lost a tie breaker to Stanford in 17 and last year was COVID Oregon, but 1st place four of the past five years and two Conference Championships....and I would hardly say that was because we had a bunch of Hawaiians.

The past decade they are 52 and 33 in Conference and 81 and 42 overall. Not bad, and I know you said "past decade", but how about a more improtant past five years? 29 and 11 in Conference and 43 and 15 overall. I would say if that is all because of Hawaii we might want to get more of them.

Is your point that if we kept those local kids here they wouldn't have been busts? Because all we know is that we spent a lot of time crying about kids leaving, and they haven't really amounted to much after leaving. Maybe the "talent" in this State is over rated because there isn't enough talent for these kids to play against? I remember thinking Heaps and Eason would be Heisman candidates. Kason Williams too. These kids don't play against enough talent, IMO, to be as highly rated as they are. It is all projections, and the projections are often and mostly wrong.

This latest kid? "Going to be an elite pass rusher". Wasn't Foster Serrill supposed to be the next Walter Jones? Not sure I put a lot of stock into these guys that watch 17 year old kids and think they know what they will be later on.

But Hell, if the local kids leave, and it is the Hawaiian's that have us tied for first or alone in first in the North for four of the past five years? I say spend more time in Hawaii then!

I think if Eason had gone to UW to begin with he would have been a lot better by his final year than he ended up being. And several of those others would have been able to play more, like that clown who chose Nebraska. They all think the grass is going to be greener somewhere else and it usually turns out to be the opposite.
