I think the Cardinals are still paying a good portion of that, they ate some of the contract just to get him off their roster when they traded him to us.

Guessing the sting of knowing that the team that trades you offers to pay a huge portion of your salary just to get rid of you subsides every month when you see that $2M direct deposit hit your account every month during the season.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:00 pmI think the Cardinals are still paying a good portion of that, they ate some of the contract just to get him off their roster when they traded him to us.

Re: Trade!!!!
Who is paying Leake’s remaining salary is not particularly relevant. The question is whether Leake’s value to the Mariners as a middle-of-the-rotation pitcher is worth less than $6 mil plus some 22 yo piss-ant A+ level infielder.
Re: Trade!!!!
When we're not contending anyways, his value to the Mariners is ZERO.Happy as hell wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:24 pmWho is paying Leake’s remaining salary is not particularly relevant. That's why they traded him.

They still have to play a lot of games until 2021 when somehow, magically, they will contend. $6 mil is reasonably cheap starting pitching.bpj wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:40 pmWhen we're not contending anyways, his value to the Mariners is ZERO.Happy as hell wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:24 pmWho is paying Leake’s remaining salary is not particularly relevant. Re: Trade!!!!
including the 5 Million doallr Buyout for 2021, Leake was owed 53 Million starting in 2017 and the Cards picked up 20 million of that. With the D-bags picking up 6 that means when all the Money is done changing Hands, the M's will have paid Leake about 27 Million total. In exchange for that 27 Million we got a total of 4.5 bWAR out of him. Seems like Dipoto came out behind on that one.
Re: Trade!!!!
So Cards pay some Seattle pays a lot and the D-Backs get an innings eating back-end type at 6 million for 1.3 years give or take?
After EE, Bruce, I did not think they would be able to get out of that much. After all if we just let him go and another team signed for the min we would only get that relief. I am not excited too much but the return seems like a young Shed Long light? Oh, and a decent LH BP type. Strickland tanked his value coming off a bad year and then not re-establishing for us.

For 27 million you probably should get at least 8. Yep, definitely came out well behind even with the salary relief.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:49 pmincluding the 5 Million doallr Buyout for 2021, Leake was owed 53 Million starting in 2017 and the Cards picked up 20 million of that. Not that badly though. Leake was part of a luke warm attempt to push an aging core to 1 last chance before management was forced to accept the "re-imagination.".Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 10:49 pmincluding the 5 Million doallr Buyout for 2021, Leake was owed 53 Million starting in 2017 and the Cards picked up 20 million of that. I think the last guess-timation of F.A. WAR was 8 million per WAR per year. +/-. If we don't see any of the prospects blossom for us or them I am fine with it.
