Who is paying Leake’s remaining salary is not particularly relevant. The question is whether Leake’s value to the Mariners as a middle-of-the-rotation pitcher is worth less than $6 mil plus some 22 yo piss-ant A+ level infielder.

When we're not contending anyways, his value to the Mariners is ZERO.

That's why they traded him.

They still have to play a lot of games until 2021 when somehow, magically, they will contend. $6 mil is reasonably cheap starting pitching.

That's about 12x what they'll be paying one of the kids who need MLB experience.

The fact that we're talking about how much Leake has "been worth" is another stupid concept the saber dorks introduced.

If the Mariners didnt make the playoffs every dollar they spent was wasted. Leake wasnt "worth" any millions to us because nothing came of it.

If we have lottery tickets that didnt win, we don't calculate their value to us any longer based on what could've been.

Question is, will it be rushig any of these kids to pitch them next year. I think the are a few that will probably be ready, but most are probably mid 2020 or later.

Now it does give opportunities to Chrismat, McGaughan, Miesewicz, but they are all pretty fringy. Gilbert, Dunn, Sanchez are all a few years away. Sheffield probably sold have taken Milones spot in the rotation to start next season

That just has the risk of taxing a young bullpen. That probably won't be a big issue since dipoto is bound to shuffle guys back and forth again

We got a nice haul from the Nats for not giving up much imo...

Two super solid lefties. That Fletcher kid has put up some numbers thus far. The other kid was their #15 overall prospect and throws mid 90's from the left side.

The Leake trade was a little weak... only $6 million in salary relief... but hey, who cares.

Agreed, at some point the money comes back into play, they have saved a lot this season on top of adding to a fat farm.

If Seager gets to a .750 OPS, Nola can handle 2B defense with a big bat. Go get a 1B and 2 TOR pitchers, bring your stud relievers up (get Haniger/Santana healthy) and, voila, we're contenders.

only 80 hit grade I've ever seen. That's essentially saying he's Ted Williams or idk.. maybe prime Miguel Cabrera
