Cole is a good comparator to Gilbert.
Cole in high A: 69 IPs 2.55 ERA 1.10 WHIP 69 Ks 21 BBs
Gilbert in high A: 62 IPs 1.73 ERA 1.03 WHIP 72Ks 12 BBs
Gilbert was 8 months older but he didn't pitch last year as a pro.
Mariners confident their rebuild is working
Re: Mariners confident their rebuild is working
Impressive numbers!
Adding a talent like Cole makes Dipotos timeframe look very realistic with very few spots left to fill.
Here's what I would do with the lineup if they don't go after any improvements in the offseason:
Haniger LF
Crawford SS
Vogelbach 1B
Santana RF
Narvaez DH
Nola 1B
Seager 3B
Murphy C
Fraley CF
Long 2B
Cole
Gonzales
Kikuchi
Dunn
Sheffield
Gilbert
Nola in the field allows them to utilize the backup catcher at DH.
Add 2 great players to this mix and we're easy contenders.
Throw in talents like Madison Bumgarner and Yasiel Puig to DH/4th OF, for example, and it's not at all hard to see a contender imo.
I don't think they'll add any expensive players this offseason, but going into 2021 I don't have a hard time visualizing this team being a winner. At all.

Good point, lol, Long at UTIL, Nola at 2B, swap those two, either way.

Re: Mariners confident their rebuild is working
The Yankees will outbid everyone for Cole. So y'all can just forget about that. Plus Jerry has already stated he's not going into the offseason looking to add a huge contract. It's not even his style anyways. Gerrit Cole is a pipe dream. The Rangers were talking about him down here on the radio too. There are going to be so many bidders for him this offseason. He ain't coming to Seattle.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2019 6:14 pmImpressive numbers!

Re: Mariners confident their rebuild is working
He is also not going to want to come to a tanking team who might challenge in 2021/2022
Re: Mariners confident their rebuild is working
He will go wherever he's offered the most money. That's highly unlikely to be seattle.
But you can shove that "hes never coming to Seattle" stuff up your ass along with the idea that one of these loser liberals will beat Trump in 2020.
