Your right it won't, but a bunch more moves like him will. Reports say that the Mariners are from done.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:14 amAbraham Toro is not going to be the deciding factor on weather they win the division next year.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:09 amI'd rather win the Division next year and future years.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:07 amYeah another AAAA player. Already 24 with parts of three seasons in the show and a .193 career average. This is terrible. I'd rather take a shot at actually making the playoffs and lose graveman for nothing at the end of the year. Instead we bail on the season and pick up another "prospect" who has been a disappointment to this point. Now we get to watch this guy try to figure it out for the next four years while Dipoto touts his potential as the reason he doesnt need to add any quality free agents.

Re: Mariners TRADE Graveman to Astros!!!!!! WHST THE FUCK!!?????
Thanks for this, Sexy, I appreciate it.
I had to pour a glass of wine, and walk around and think about this:
First, getting the emotional attachment out of the way. Graveman was OUR rescue, and he did us proud. A bulldog. He was a leader, had an attachment to this team, and we all hoped he'd be a part of the bullpen down the stretch. That stings a lot of people (me included, since I valued him highly). I get it. Rest assured, he's gonna get a standing O if he comes in from the Houston bullpen this week. But I'm already getting over all that. And yes, we can also sign him in the offseason, and who knows, maybe this was an understanding with management with the trade rumors going around.
Like the rest of you, I could give a flying frick about Montero. Houston is stocking a bullpen for the stretch, and they get a quality arm, along with a roll of the dice.
The synopsis on Toro is 3 years old. I don't know how much has changed since this was written. He has some pop, and he has some infield versatility. He's a switch hitter, which I think is great, although the synopsis is better right than left. The reviewer likes his arm. The majority of his work with Houston has been at third. I see this as working to create infield versatility between 3B and 1B, perhaps hedging the bet to not pick up Seager's option post-season. He has fractional experience at 2B, but I think Moore is going to settle in there permanently, and Toro would only be a last resort at that position.
I see the trade as less a loss in the bullpen, given its depth. I see the loss in leadership, definitely. But I don't see the gain as being one to boost our chances...
...unless another move is coming that this move is the precursor for. And I would not doubt that for a second.

Because I'm not so myopic thinking that making a wildcard this year should be the end goalCaptain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:12 amWhen you haven't made the playoffs in 20 years How could you possibly be ok with throwing the towel in on a season when you are 1 game out of the wildcard? Seriously they have all the payroll in the world. Toro brings absolutely nothing that you couldn't easily replace in the offseason.

Dipoto made this trade for himself. He is gone after this year. This chemistry is shot and he is helping Cheatstros get stronger. Let's see how we do final few games. If we can take one then chemistry is gone. If not then there goes all the fun. One trade could ruin a season. It's happened before. This might be the one.

Fine so we benching Kylebpj wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:16 amYeah, a lot of guys seem to have gotten emotionally ready to contend.
Will be nice when they finally prove they're going for it and trying to win.
Some of us think they'll try and do it as cheap as possible.
Toro being a prime example- instead of spending on Kris Bryant, here's Toro instead.

I think its likely to be a team full of guys that aren't the deciding factor.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:14 amAbraham Toro is not going to be the deciding factor on weather they win the division next year.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:09 amI'd rather win the Division next year and future years.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:07 amYeah another AAAA player. High floor, low ceiling team. Solid, nobody being overpaid. Nobody being a black hole, which is most important imo.

They could have added someone better than that by opening their wallets this off-season. This is a massive middle finger to the fans. If the '95 Mariners had traded Norm Charlton or Jeff Nelson in late July the Mariners would be playing in another city right now.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:09 amI'd rather win the Division next year and future years.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:07 amYeah another AAAA player. Seager is one of the best hitters in the league- when he's hitting on the road- maybe he'll be on the move.Coeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:19 amFine so we benching Kylebpj wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:16 amYeah, a lot of guys seem to have gotten emotionally ready to contend.

I'd be surprised to see a team give him the $15M option, but I was also surprised to see he has over an .850 OPS on the road.

This is exactly what I am afraid of. Always chasing a young reclamation project hoping to strike gold. Instead well end up with a bunch of mediocre players.bpj wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 12:16 amYeah, a lot of guys seem to have gotten emotionally ready to contend.
