It's a word scramble puzzle. So far, the best I can make from it is "Will probably killed me. Get this?"Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:40 pmShoot, I just died reading this thread title. So don't feel bad about "getting me this killed" at all.

Thanks. Too bad Billy Heywood isn't here to shed light on the issue.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2019 3:58 pmVery astute observation and I was wrong. Vogey is in fact the slowest guy on the team in terms of pure "speed". But the fact remains as the Bsr measure shows, he is a relatively good base runner despite that limitation.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 6:50 pmI'm trying to think of how the BsR stat might fall short as a measure of a player's speed alone. Something about how Vogelbach hits the ball leads to him getting a very high extra-base hit %, and perhaps infielders play deeper than normal so that when they field his ground balls they have less time to turn a DP. I don't know why those things would be the case though. Perhaps he also is more conservative about stealing bases.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 6:21 pmsomething odd about that list, it has Ohtani as the 6th fastest DH, but he is considered basically as fast as Mike Trout

https://library.fangraphs.com/offense/o ... tics-list/BsR (Base Running Runs Above Average): Number of runs above or below average a player has been worth on the bases, based on stolen bases, caught stealing, extra bases taken, outs on the bases, and avoiding double plays. It is the combination of wSB, UBR, and wGDP.

Re: Probably will get this me killed
I am not really super attached to Vogelbach. His whole season has basically been built on one exceptional month. March/April he had a 1.195 OPS Since then he has put up a .717, .840, .756, and .530 so far in August. He is batting .208 since May 1st. In addition to that he is horrendous against lefties. His slash line is .174 /.283 /.667 against lefties. He has been terrible against lefties all through the Minors as well so its not a trend I expect to see improve. Then there is the question of longevity. I posted about this a while back . but there really is not a great track record of guys with his body type (6'-0" and north of 260 pounds) having a decent career past there late 20's. Mo Vaughn, Prince fielder, and Pablo Sandoval all just pretty much dropped off a cliff at about age 28. Vogelbach will be 27 next season. I think I am more comfortable moving forward with Santana as the primary DH. They are the same age and I think Santana will have the longer and ultimately more productive career. I would say if you get a decent trade offer for Vogelbach this offseason that I would take it.
Re: Probably will get this me killed
There is no reason to move on from either Vogelbach or Santana until whoever is replacing them is better.
We already have 5 guys better than Mallex Smith. Replacing him is a no-brainer.
Ain't nobody putting up .900 and 1.000 OPS's yet to make moving Santana or Vogelbach anywhere near a reality.
As far as his body, dudes making 500k. He doesnt have a contract so he plays until hes not productive, then he doesn't. It's real simple, we don't have to worry about issues that aren't issues.

Re: Probably will get this me killed
The only reason to move on from them is if you were able to pick up something in a trade that you felt was more valuable and had a higher probability of having you win in 3-4 years.
Re: Probably will get this me killed
If he was Haniger's age I would probably agree regarding the physical fitness issue but he will only be 28-29 when they are going for it.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 3:25 pmThe only reason to move on from them is if you were able to pick up something in a trade that you felt was more valuable and had a higher probability of having you win in 3-4 years.
