Those Damn A’s Riding High, Somehow

Post by Hy Feiber » Wed Aug 07, 2019 3:11 am

The No Name offense bombed Jon Lester for 8 runs in the second inning.

Some guy Garneau hits a 3 run shot.

Whipped the Cubs, 11-4.

They’re 65-49.

I look at their lineup, castoffs, overachievers, keep shakin my head.

Subpar year for Davis, even.

Looks like another playoff?

They will probably be pissed if they miss the playoffs because they lost both games in Japan to this POS team.

The A's are an interesting case as always.

Their pitchers strike out fewer hitters than any other team in baseball. 7.69K/9. Dead last. The Mariners are next worst at 7.75K/9.

Their pitchers give up the 4th fewest HR/9. Mariners at 1.74HR/9, the A's at 1.16HR/9

They have a 4.08 ERA, the 8th best in MLB while having the 26th lowest GB% (meaning their pitchers produce fewer balls on the ground).

Average defense.

24th in stolen bases which Dipoto seems intent on chasing.

They are average in just about everything else, except the stat that single handedly puts runs on the scoreboard, they're 7th in MLB in home runs.

Interesting mix that seems to be working for them. Keep a low ERA, smash dingers. Who'dathunkit.

Have to admire the A's organization. Every few years they have to develop a new team.
I guess, Billy Beane has talent.

Ah yes, that 2-0 start, so many light years ago, halcyon days for sure.

We were as happy as clams, when the world was our oyster, whatever the hell that means.

Every year I think Beane's Finally gone crazy, I remember long ago when he jettisoned Giambi, Zito, traded Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder for not much, thought they'd tank then.

Nope.

The Mad Scientist's Got the Knack!

Just proves the solid clubs can prosper without Yankee money.
