A lot has been made about the one one one pass rush drills. One take is the pass rushers aren't very good . Another is what if the line is that good? Brown said earlier in the year they can be the best in the league. Second year under Solari. They have veteran leadership, massive size and depth. Probably somewhere in between . However nothing should distract from the fact that Clowney is now available in trade as was expected.
Are the Hawks waiting to trade for.. .. Clowney?

Re: Are the Hawks waiting to trade for.. .. Clowney?
After all those veteran contracts they just got rid of, I would think they'd be a bit tentative when it comes to trading for another one who becomes a free agent next year.ThePro wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2019 3:33 amThis is the time of year for speculation, rankings and hype. Thought I would spice it up a little.
I still find it odd that the Hawks would pass on a 25 yo pass rusher with 14 sacks. You must admit that is out of character. They did get quite the draft haul. However just seems unusual. Hawks have plenty of cap space next year.
Texans have shit the bed with Clowney. He hasn't signed his franchise tender and more than likely he won't be signing a long term deal with Houston. To make matters worse they franchised Clowney as a OLB instead of a DE . He has a grievance filed. That move by the Texans FO is costing him money under the franchise tag.
Doesn't this year seem kinda quiet for big splash moves by the Hawks? They signed Wilson and traded Clark but what have they really added? Aren't we all a little nervous about the pass rush? Doesn't it seem incomplete? Before you dismiss me as crazy.... I'm not the only one. Doesn't this sound like something Schneider would do?

None of those veteran contracts was a 26 yo #1 overall pick EDGE rusher. Good position, player amd right age to invest money into. Hawks have 70 mil in cap space next year.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 4:12 pm

Clowney would be an ideal acquisition - imagine that talent getting to suit up in front of the 12's? To become a central figure on a team with this much upside? A team always in the playoff hunt? A team that is young and hungry? Jesus. He'd be unstoppable. Ever been to a Texan's game? Not on the same level as a game in Seattle - not even close. That atmosphere is what guys like Clowney would absolutely thrive in. He's a $20 mill a year talent - it's going to come down to the draft capitol they would have to give up - and I would imagine that discussion begins with at least one/two first rounders if you are the Texans. Schneider is likely in the mix, but the longer this plays out, the less leverage the Texans have - that's probably what JS is waiting for - the best possible deal favoring Seattle. He's not a must-have, that's why JS can wait.

No way is Clowney's trade value that much. Like I said Texans really shit the bed with this one. They waited after July 15th so his new team can't sign him to a long term deal until 2020. Basically you would be trading for a one year rent a player. He's worth the risk IMO
It might cost you like a 2nd and a 3rd? A 2 and a 5? Maybe if there's a ridiculous bidding war a 1st. I highly doubt it.

Give them a 2,3, and another 3 if needed, right now, no questions asked. Millen said Ziggy looked way out of shape running his edge bend drill the other day, so hard to see him having a huge impact right out of the gate. might not need it week 1 vs. Cincy, but Big Ben and Brees shortly follow. gitter done!
Re: Are the Hawks waiting to trade for.. .. Clowney?
Besides the comedy of "throwing in C.J. Prosise".. This guy has Seattle his #1 spot.. Seattle Seahawks
Rather than pony up with a big contract for him, the Seahawks traded Frank Clark to the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason. That might automatically push them aside as a suitor for Clowney, who is in line for his own multi-year contract toward the top of the edge rusher market.
But Seattle is counting on Ezekiel Ansah to be healthy, first-round pick L.J. Collier to develop quickly and the return of Cassius March to cover for Clark’s absence and bolster their pass rush. Ansah was limited as he recovered from shoulder surgery all offseason. But he is in line to be ready for Week 1, and a Bret Saberhagen-esque every other year thing puts the former top-five overall pick in line for a big year in 2019.
The Seahawks have $24.2 million in cap space right now. So they can absorb whatever Clowney’s franchise tag number winds up being without necessarily having to send a player to the Texans to offset the financial hit. A couple of picks should get it done, and perhaps Seattle could convince Houston to take a flier on running back C.J. Prosise as a throw-in to the deal.
Re: Are the Hawks waiting to trade for.. .. Clowney?
Seems at this point relying on Collier, Marsh, Ziggy and Mingo to pressure QBs is like trying to hunt Rhino on the Serengeti with a bag of rubber bands. Desperate measures for desperate times. Send in the Clowney.

I don't think they are in desperation mode. If they are. One player is not going to change that.We are witnessing the after effect of training the teams best pass rusher and Reed being suspended. Right now it's just unknown. I think if you have a chance to add a pro bowl player under 30 especially if its a commodity like a EDGE. I think you should seize that opportunity.
