Seager

Post by Captain 97 » Mon Aug 19, 2019 3:41 pm

Don't look now but Seager is only 0.1 Behind Vogey in both bWAR and fWAR for a best position player on the team. The guy is torrid right now and is above his career OPS for the season. I think we might have underestimated how much his injuries over the past couple of years affected his performance. Another interesting note. Kyle Seager and Ken Griffey Jr. are the only Mariners to hit 16 or more Home Runs in 8 consecutive seasons. If Seager can hit two more bombs this season he will be the only Mariner with 18 or more home runs in 8 consecutive seasons. I am very glad to see him back on track. I know Kyle draws a lot of criticism on this forum but I think he is the perfect veteran player to guide the young guys through a rebuild and I would love to see him stick around.

He is 7th in the AL for 3Bs for WAR/150. If he keeps it up he will be tradeable this off season.

Name Team G WAR WAR/150
Alex Bregman Astros 119 5.5 6.9
Rafael Devers Red Sox 123 5.5 6.7
Matt Chapman Athletics 121 5 6.2
Yoan Moncada White Sox 97 4 6.2
DJ LeMahieu Yankees 112 4.6 6.2
Hunter Dozier Royals 102 3.4 5.0
Kyle Seager Mariners 69 2 4.3

agree that his injuries could have contributed to his lack of production the last few seasons. It be interesting to study his hitting profile lately, if he is elevating the ball more, he must be, with that kind of production. But its that i read a thing awhile ago that with all the debate about shifts that they are quietly becoming a non factor with the focus on elevating the ball. There is no need to outlaw them, they are no longer that effective

Maybe now they figure out a way to shift vertically instead of horizontally. lol

This is why all we seem to see anymore is home runs and strikeouts.

They could go either way with Seager.

His resurgence gives them something that's hard to find in FA, exactly what Seager is.

If they have a 2020-2021 window and Seager's earning his keep, I don't know.. You could almost include him in a playoff push for 2020 if you bought 3 free agents.

We have the bullpen on-hand in my opinion.

Buy free agents that have contracts that expire in 3 years, 4 years and 5 years so as your kids need extensions or you need to add free agents you always have the financial flexibility.

Waiting on a playoff push will also negate what value we have in Narvaez and Murphy, imo.

Speaking of our raking catchers. By far the best hitting tandem in baseball.

Hey, there are 5 teams worsee defensively! 4th in overall WAR. Not bad. Question is, do you trade one of them while value is high, or is value not high enough to make it worth it.
