What's weird about this vid? Other than Klew standing upright.
Well he stopped humping the air last year, so I don't think that's what you are referring to
Winker has to come over and introduce himself to JD. Should be vice versa.
So you are assuming that's the first time they have met or talked?

I'm kinda glad Seattle didn't land Story or Bryant. Let Haniger walk, or trade him at the deadline for prospects. They have plenty of money to make a run at "Sho-time" next offseason. Imagine Ohtani in the current lineup and rotation. And we all know how much Dipoto loves Shohei!

2B-Frazier
DH-Ohtani
1B-France
LF-Winker
RF-Rodriguez
CF-Kelenic
3B-Suarez
C-Murphy
SS-Crawford
If we are so out of it with a 12 team playoff at the deadline that trading Mitch makes sense JD should be fired. As for Ohtani, the Sham Wow guy loves Shohei but given he chose the Angels despite JDs dog and pony show, it doesn't seem the feeling is mutual.
Unless Julio, Kelenic, and Lewis are absolutely raking! Then you can afford to trade Mitch. I wouldn't though, thats highly unlikely.

Schoenfield on the Winker Suarez trade. I think dipoto was running out of options, needed to do something, but I find it a bit underwhelming...

Interesting, thinks Winker is more of a DH than a left fielder, with dipotos distaste for dhs
. He is a lousy left fielder, so his best fit is DH. (An outfield with Winker in left and Jarred Kelenic in center is a scary idea.)
On Suarez... guess there is always a chance but to me that sort of approach isn't something that is likely changed much at this point in a career
.He is a classic example of the modern player who has taken the Three True Outcomes approach to a negative extreme with an all-or-nothing, pull-heavy approach that yields too many strikeouts and harmless fly balls. He is only 30 years old, so there's a chance to get him back to an All-Star level, but he also could end up being nothing more than a platoon player at third base with Abraham Toro. Suarez also is a below-average third baseman.
I just think looking at this as a successful outcome to the off season is letting dipoto off pretty easy

I don't hear anyone in the forum saying Dipoto is off the hook for anything. Until we make the playoffs JD should continue to be on the hot seat.

Schoenfeld's take seems a bit harsh to me. Also you are giving JD no credit for the RR signing. On the balance this has been a very good offseason.

Wow man. Could it have been a little better? Maybe, but how can you complain about an off season that added 3 players who were in the all star game last season one of whom won the Cy Young award? On top of that the 4th guy they added is a former All-star who hit 49 HR in 2019. The M's haven't had an every day player hit .300 since Jean Segura in 2018 and they have added 2 that did it last season. The last time the Mariners had 2 players hit .300 in the same year was 2007. The M's have never come even remotely close to adding this much talent in one off season in the history of the franchise.

No, but it was obviously the first time post trade. Just seems JD should be welcoming to the new guys to the team as opposed to them having to seek him out. Kind of lends credence to the rumors that we have heard around him and Seager. He was very welcoming when Winker came over so not a big deal.

Well said, Captain 97. With Frazier, Winker and France, the M's have 3 guys capable of hitting .300 + . That's quite an accomplishment in today's game with pitching at an all-time level.

Just wanted to pass along Dtrain and Dion new episode with trade reaction and analysis, thoughts on 5th starter options, Kyle Lewis being slow played, J-Rod making the OD roster, Hancock shut down and more. (not a fan of creating a new thread every time we record a new episode)

I'm pretty happy with this trade overall, but did not know until now what a bad left fielder Winker is. He's supposed to be slow as shit and just not at all intuitive out there. My hope is that he spends a lot of time at DH and that they start working him out at 1B as well.

Yep, it has turned out to be a very good winter for the M's regardless ..... and we have a few stocking stuffers to unwrap during the season.
