Kelenic and Winker can split time against lefties. Maybe some games where both have the game off with Julio, Lewis and Haniger in the OF.

Frazier 2B
France 1B
Haniger RF
Julio LF
Lewis CF
Torrens DH
Suarez 3B
Murphy C
JP SS

That's a pretty formidable lineup against lefties

JP SS
Frazier LF
Winker DH
France 1B
Haniger RF
Julio CF
Raleigh C
Suarez 3B
Toro 2B

Something like that against righties.
Curious why you swapped JP and Frazier.

we got ourselves a Juan soto, cool

Was that Hollander or JD?
Hollander... love how these guys talk .. breathing room?
.“Now we have some breathing room for guys like K-Lew, Julio and Jarred Kelenic, hitting them in a spot where it is easier to ease in,” said Hollander.
The top secret stuff...
“When we started, we thought it was a very good bat,” said Hollander “As we dug into the underlying stuff, the stuff that is not always available to the public? Its a special bat. It’s special in the industry.”
So they value breathing room but unnecessarily put JK at leadoff and left him there to fry throughout one of the worst slumps in baseball history. These guys could sell sand in the Sahara Desert.

I thought he had better splits against righties. It was actually pretty even last year.

Yeah, even if they did I would be shocked if JP ever is out of the LO spot unless he slumps big time.

And generally your 2-3-4, even five hitter aren't getting moved around a lot are they?

It wasn't a prediction, or even what I think they should do. Just a vague idea of what they could do. I think JP will improve though on last year's numbers. He's also just been better as a leadoff hitter. I think he did a good job of making the pitcher work, and continues to improve. I wouldn't be surprised if his obp is about the same as Frazier this season.

I guess part of the reason I would drop him against lefties though, is to get the righties up higher in the lineup who do better against lefties, like Haniger and France.

Final trade
M's get
Winker LH OF128 ops+ career 2 years 6.2M 22 and 12M in 23
Saurez 3/35M with buyout 108 OPS+ career (Bounce back)

Reds get
Williamson LHP would be top 100 adjacent #6 in the system (#5 in reds)
Dunn a former top 100 coming off a 110 ERA+ year
Fraley a 4th outfielder type he had a 105 OPS+ last year
and Phillups a high risk high upside young arm #8 in 2021 and #15 in 2022 (#14 in reds)

I mean the tribe was in on Winker but balked when the Reds introduced Saurez as part of the package. I am thinking that Saurez probably had negative value that was significant. Williamson hurt the worst, Dunn was good depth, Fraley and Phillups are just guys. All in all I am ok with it. Saurez maybe one of those change of scenery guys but if he does not bounce back what do you do? Invent a injury for him to rehab?

Two years from now it is likely the Reds will have a MoR starter with 6-7 years of control and the Mariners will have nothing but memories of a great clubhouse dude that helped almost get them into the playoffs before splitting for greener pastures.

If he doesn't bounce back then you just insert Toro. It still stings giving up Brandon. I'm ok with giving up Connor so long as he doesn't turn into the next Pablo Lopez or Sandy Alcantara. I can't remember which one we traded to the Marlins. I think it was Lopez. I hate giving up pitching prospects. BUT, I would rather have Winker and Suarez's offense. They make this lineup more dangerous and put fear into opposing pitchers. In the middle and the back of the lineup

That’s why overpaying for a free agent is the better move. It’s only money and no salary cap. It costs zero top prospects.

This is the major issue with Stanton and crew, they are about profit. Pay nothing. Really have spent nothing more than last year after the wash of Kyle.

I absolutely don’t trust this ownership they are serious about winning. Making a profit is what they are about.

Go back to say they had no idea about Kevin Mather. That’s a lie.

Trade prospects and keep cash instead of pay free agents and keep prospects. The new norm.
