They have behind the ANgels and,, get this the Twins
M's 27% to make the postseason
Twins37.7 %
Angels 39%

By their estimations, we are the #9th best team in the AL or 7th worst

That is ridic, the Twins have no pitching

M's needed at least one more infielder and TOR pitcher. But they decided to go cheap. Can't wait to hear Jerry tell us how it's a developmental year (again) and that they will spend big in '23.

If they get a TOR and a lefty BP stud I think they are pretty much set.

I think they believe JK and or JRod will make a positive impact this year.

At the beginning of the year you don't really go in with everything set - you allow for a little growth and wait-and-see mentality. By mid-season they will know what they have exactly and what they need to augment for a push run - settle down little snowflakes - we are going to playoffs this year!!!

the coming season is interesting in that the team and manager are now going into a year with expectations. from what i have heard in the interviews with both dipoto and servais, they both seem like they are thinking this team could and should make the playoffs. i haven't checked much print projections, but a lot of analyst and former players seem to the like the mariners chances of making the playoffs.

if i want to give a conservative percentage guess, i would say 85% have the mariners as one of the six playoff teams. assuming we don't win the division, with three teams (division winners) getting in, there are only nine contenders in the AL, (sawx/yankees/jays/rays, sox/twins, astros/mariners/angels). lets say its jays, sox, astros, the mariners need to beat out the yankees, sawx, rays, twins, and angels.

before getting into injuries/covid/vaccines, the yankees after cole, to me, have no starting pitching, and if judge and others miss 93 games because they aren't vaxed, the sawx already lost sale rodriguez, and the rays to me can lose 90 any year because of how they operate. lets give the rays a spot and the mariners should beat out the yankees for sure maybe the sawx. if we give the sawx another spot, they need to beat out the yankees/twins/ angels. now, for a gm and manager going into their seventh year with no playoff appearances, which includes the pandemic year where they let everyone into the party, that should not be too much to ask.

let's say they go 70-92 because of either injuries, or healthy abs underperform. or, 90-72 because of good play, and either with or without injuries, but miss the playoffs again. what happens to dipoto and servais?

They sit $62M below peak 2018 payroll and they could have easily bought Chafin for $7M a year, McHugh for $5M a year or Greinke for $13M........and they didn't. Waited for them to all be off the market and then say we aren't interested in what's left.

Yep they are banking on hope instead of reality because the latter costs more money.

That is not a mentality conducive to making the playoffs. You basically play for 4 months with a inferior roster to "see what you have?" Could easily cost you 5-6 games and the playoffs......again. It is PRECISELY why we missed the playoffs last season by not adding a single position player and waiting until the trade deadline to make ANY moves.

And the Dodgers just go get what they need which demonstrates the difference between a commitment to winning vs "whatever". As the Arby's commercial says, "We've got the money".
