Should the Mariners offer a minor league contract to 28-year-old free agent Edwin Rios, a lefthand-hitting corner infielder with power?

Would Rios accept a minor league contract with the Mariners?

Rios, who has a career wRC+ of 112 in 112 games, posted a wRC+ of 120 in 27 games last year. FanGraphs and Steamer each project Rios at a 2023 wRC+ of 95 with 0.2 and 0.1 WAR in 60 games. FanGraphs projects Rios to maintain his career strikeout rate of about 32 percent.

Rios reportedly is a defensive liability but could provide insurance down at Tacoma as a potential complement to righthand-hitting Ty France and Eugenio Suarez at the corners.

Sure, why not. Nice power.

Unfortunately, it's starting to look like the days when we were scraping the bottom and sides of a dumpster hoping that something useful will happen.

Doesn't strike me as the type that allow himself to be stashed in AAA. He might sign a minor league contact but he is going to have an opt-out clause if he doesn't make the roster

We need him though. Don't really have France back up.

That was my comment a few days ago, we need someone to backup,France/Suarez because if both go,down we are screwed

I think our old friend Nelson Cruz could be a good contributor:

https://www.mlb.com/news/nelson-cruz-on ... arity-work

Cruz was tested this season by a left eye problem he estimates has been an issue for almost a year and a half and got worse in September. The inner corner of that eye is inflamed, limiting clear vision to his right eye. He initially thought he could counter it by adjusting his swing, but he ultimately decided to schedule surgery for Oct. 31 to remove the extra skin causing difficulty seeing. He expects to be cleared for baseball activities six to eight weeks later and get back to “100 percent.”

“That would be beautiful to start seeing the baseball again,” Cruz said, adding, “Vision is everything for hitters. But the good thing is, it can be fixed.”

That lines up with his 1st 1/2 of 2021 .294 .370 .537 .907 148 OPS+.

I would be up for signing him for like 5M with incentives to ???? 15M?
