SPS Sues Tech Giants

Post by Cascade Kid » Sun Jan 08, 2023 6:37 pm

Interestingly enought, one could remove 'tech giants' and replace it with 'Seattle Public Schools' and hold similar arguments. At least the former can be avoided voluntarily, while the latter is far more difficult to do so.

This is like suing a Tavern, or someone's house, or maybe a church for the social conflicts it may contain, but also could be voluntarily avoided. Maybe sue telecommunications companies too for further allowing access to bullying.

What's next? Sue candy and soda companies for making people fat and harming self-esteem?

I understand there are very sensitive people, and mainly among the youth. I think it's more important that parents and family recognize these dangers and prepare their childern on how to better handle these conflicts in any given setting.

Suing social media will not resolve the problem without dampering freedom of speech, and it will like still exist since there is no definition on what is ok to say and what is not. So who makes those rules? All this is is a money grab by SPS. They are having some economic short comings they are dealing with

Talk to your kids and let them know the dangers of bullying, and follow up with them and make sure they are hearing you.

Not to mention the mental health crisis is more likely due to remote learning that they absurdly mandated....

It's interesting that the AG didn't file a petition more broadly. He might be thinking that his case would be too thin to win. SPS is on a slippery slope which could cost them tremendous legal fees in its effort.

More and more parents are discovering that social media is not good for their kids. Yet those same parents are willing to purchase phones and computers for pre-teen students and allow them to take their gadgets into their bedrooms and shut the door. What do they think will happen? Nothing? Of course the kiddos are going to create social media accounts unless parents can monitor their avenues on the internet. Take the damned computer out of their bedroom and explain to me exactly why your little urchin needs a personal phone!

If it's for "emergencies" when at school, they can call the office and have a message relayed to their kid. And if there is a problem on campus, you certainly don't need 800 kids trying to call out all at once and overload the circuits when emergency services need to use those circuits. Get a spare phone for your kid to take with them when they are out of the house. Then have them return it to you when they come home. Far easier and cheaper than purchasing a phone for each of your kids!

My inside connections with SPS says no legal fees for this lawsuit unless there's a settlement.

SPS faces a $57M shortfall, and double that in 2 years with continued losses projected year after year. So it makes me think about if this lawsuit is more for kids or for SPS. I'm told the money would be used toward social workers. I argue that this doesn't fix the problem, but just makes it more expensive.

The Education of our kids is a fiasco. We spend more time making sure our little urchins are comfortable and indoctrinated than we do on Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. Pathetic.

Or water bottles on our desks? Or frequent trips to the rest rooms? I wonder how I survived to the ripe old age of 70!
