yeah I think we all hated those picks. It's one thing if it's a position of need, like Ifedi, but I flat out didn't understand the CMike, Penny or even Brooks picks. In retrospect, I get the Brooks pick, they knew they were going to have to replace two stud LBs, but at the time I was WTF? I wonder if they just fall in love with some aspect of somebody and think they can fix the rest - like I think Ifedi was crazy strong and CMike was really fast (or maybe I'm imagining those things). Makes me worry about an Anthony Richardson pick.
Pete had some explosiveness chart he uses, something like that. Supposedly C Mike scored higher than any player ever known to mankind. Let's hope C Mike is the reason that is the first and LAST time I have ever heard Pete speak of this chart!

I remember that article, and I don't think it was called a SPARK test, but I really don't remember. Searching for it I did find this nugget.
2013: Drafting Christine Michael at 62 instead of Travis Kelce at 63
The 2013 draft has gone down in infamy as one of the worst first rounds in NFL history — only one of the top 24 picks has ever been named an All-Pro, tackle Lane Johnson, drafted by the Eagles fourth overall.

That was one of the primary reasons Seattle traded its first-round pick that year to get receiver Percy Harvin. That left Seattle with its first pick at No. 56 overall, which the Seahawks then traded to Baltimore to get Nos. 62, 165 and 199.

With 62, the Seahawks took the mercurial Michael, a talented running back out of Texas A&M who wasn’t necessarily a need with Marshawn Lynch in his prime.

That Green Bay took Eddie Lacy at 61 hasn’t helped the perception.

But the Seahawks insisted they had Michael rated as their top running back.

Seattle surely would have preferred Lacy (the one from 2013-16, anyway, and not the version they signed for one disappointing season in 2017). But they might really have preferred to draft Kelce, whose seven Pro Bowl picks are the most of any player taken that year. Seattle did have highly-paid veteran Zach Miller as their starting tight end at the time, so the position wasn’t an immediate need. But the Seahawks did use a pick a little later on a tight end — Luke Willson in the fifth round.

It’s worth remembering that some teams were wary of Kelce after he was suspended for the 2010 season at Cincinnati for reportedly failing a drug test for marijuana (though he came back to play full seasons in 2011 and 2012).

But at a time when the Seahawks could really go best player available and take a chance, passing on Kelce — still one of the top offensive players in the NFL — is a big missed opportunity in retrospect.
Non of my Google searches are finding this explosiveness rating that Pete mentioned in the article I must have made up in my head!

This is close, but doesn't mention Pete referencing it, which is what I remember.

In a round about way, we can connect it, as this mentions Pete using the SPARQ numbers, but not Michael in particular.

I swear there was one that was flying all over the ST Forum back in the day. Many waiting for years for C Mike to prove worthy of his all world rating. Watching him play I just think he was dumb. East to run fast and lift heavy weights, at least it was easy for him, but to actually put those physical skills to use in a game? Another time valuing an athlete over a football player might have burned a football team.

PFF says my mock draft is a failure. We shall see.

Well I think your pick at 5 is WAY too big a reach (but seems Seahawk-y),and Ika at 20 might be too high, too, but I like him. the next 2 seem like great picks, though. How could they possibly give Sanders and Hooker F's?? That C from Michigan looks good, too.

TBH, that looks like exactly the kind of draft I'd expect from the Seahawks, with a couple early reaches followed by good value later.
Yeah, I was attempting to make the best failing PFF draft I possibly could. After this weekend these grades might at lease warrant a B- draft.

That center out of Michigan would be a great find in the mid to late rounds if he's still there. His film is really interesting to watch.

I'll be stunned if the Hawks don't trade down once or twice in the first round this year.

What's interesting to me about Cmike is the number chances he got, seven teams counting the hawks twice. There was something about him kept getting him picked up

PFF liked mine slightly better:

Andre Carter II (There is another Andre Carter in the draft. Also plays Edge/DL; played for Western Mich. Broncos). AC II also lines up as a Linebacker.
Steve Avila is also a Center, so Austin Blythe replacement.
Would have liked to add an OG and possibly a QB but I'm trusting/assuming Geno is back.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

It looks to me as if we might use a early pick to fill the void at center.

It is funny how this simulator works. I mean a few times I have wondered what if I say yes to trades that get me 2024 1st and 2nd Rd picks? I went to the extreme on one or two times ended up with something like 8 more 2024 1st rounders, 3 2nds and a 3rd

I did that once too, and didn't complete hate the players I ended up with this year either, but not nearly the impact.

ok I know this thread got stale a while ago, but I finally did one where I didn't make a bunch of major trades (made a couple to move down 1-4 spots), and it broke just so nicely. OL and DL instantly MUCH better. I just did 5 rounds, don't know much about the 5th round CB but he is 6'3" so figured he'd be a pro bowler.

Carter and Simpson would be great. Really great.
