I think this is all smoke and mirrors - I would be legit surprised if they moved to take a QB - it's just not how they operate. They want to get someone esle to trade up for a QB to improve their defensive pick. Seattle's glaring glaring glaring weakness last year was the front seven - the moves they made this off season were great - but that front seven is still below average and wagner is not a long term answer. They have to start there to make this team formidable again. I will be shocked if they moved up - this is about building the defense. I could stomach the QB from Ohio state - but for the long storied history that program has - their QB's rarely make noise in the NFL - and the kid from bama is just too short. No way they take richardson. I can see them trading back, but no chance in hell they trade up. There is no need to. I 100% believe this is all a calculated attempt to get someone to trade up and take another QB leaving them with either anderson or carter to select. I don't beleive the 'red flags' will stop them from potentially taking carter - there isn't a team more qaulified to handle him than Carroll and co. That said, I can definitely see them trading back. I see no way they take a qb up top. Seattle's biggest problem is stopping the run - until that addressed - they will not be contending for anything - and Carroll and Schneider know this. All roads to the super bowl run through the d-line. Improve that and the secondary will look light years better - and they were pretty decent last year with a high ceiling of potential.
That's a lot of smoke and many mirrors with no outcome within their control. I mean, top brass is flying around the country in Allen's private jet to see QBs and not making other stops. Furthermore, there's really no news on them vetting 1st round defense, which would be near impossible to keep secret if they were vetting 1st round d. This would be some CIA level cloak & dagger stuff if your theory is correct.

I'd absolutely take Anderson if he's there at #5, but I have a feeling John and Pete do desire Richardson, for better or worse. A strong pivot for the future has to be made 'post Russ', and Geno is not the long-term solution.
Literally destroying the environment and hastening the end of the Earth by at least 17 days just to fool other teams!
I told you, I don't post bullshit!! Lol

Why does Staton say JS love "Factory made" QBs. The only legit QB they drafted was RW who is the antithesis of a traditional QB size.

Only other QB they have taken is McGough in the 7th round.

They tried to get Mahomes and Allen. Didn't work. But he was interested on those QB's.

Wow in that same draft Bears took Trubisky 2nd, Jets took Jamal Adams 6th and Bengals took Jon Ross 9th. At least the Bengals now have a good QB.

Jets could have taken Mahomes in 2017 and Josh Allen in 2018 and they took Adams and Darnold.

Allen went 7th in 2018 and we took Penny 27th. So JS wanted to take Allen but settled for Penny after not being able to trade up 20 spots with RW in his absolute prime? Sorry that theory has some serious holes. :)

True that we picked up a couple of D-Linemen as FA's. And one or two of our own we let go may come back. But I have a question for those more into the draft than I: Aren't FA's typically more expensive than draftees? And you have the draftee for a few years longer? So there may also be monetary reasons for going with a D-Line draftee. And as stated, getting two FA's for the D-Line does not solve the entire problem. When I was a kid, you could play Merlin Olsen, Lamar Lundy, Deacon Jones, and Rosie Grier nearly the whole game. Can't do that now. So if the Hawks don't draft a couple of D-Line players with two of the four picks they have in rounds one and two, that would mean signing two more FA's. Can they do that with the current salary cap? Not saying Carter is the answer. Couldn't Siaki Ika of Baylor or Tuli Tuipulotu of USC fit the bill in the late first or second rounds? Get one of them with the 20th pick and I wouldn't mind going after a QB at 5. Both are run stuffers and can break double team blocks. Carter isn't the only DT out there worth a look. One or both may be available at 20. or 37.

FAs are usually more expensive than FAs and are under contract for longer. Draftees get 4 years, first rounders get 4 plus an option for year 5. Cheaper free agents might cost less than top 10 rookies, though. The key thing with this year is the Seahawks picked up two free agents, but dropped three veterans, plus Mone is probably done with his injury, so we're still down 2 no matter how you slice it. So they didn't add bodies, they upgraded a couple spots and still need to fill a couple others.

They currently have no cap room for free agents. To do anything, they'd have to make some moves - there are some prime restructure candidates, though.

Tuli is an edge and not big enough to play inside. I really don't see why they'd need to add another edge with Taylor, Mafe, Nwosu and Jones (Jones listed as DT, but plays best in a 3 or 5 tech). Ika is projected 2nd round, and would be a likely fit as that plug-the-middle guy. There are 2 or 3 decent looking DTs that should be around in the 2nd round, but the problem is there are ONLY 2 or 3 decent looking DTs, so they may or may not be there. If the Seahawks don't go Carter, I expect them to look at Bresee, Ika, or Mazi Smith. Gervon Dexter would be a nice pickup, and lot of people have us taking Kancey, but they're too small to fill the real need we have - unless you have them play behind Jones. Lots of good players, but not all D-linemen are the same... 3-4 defenses typically need a big guy in the middle.

There are a couple of DT diamonds in the late round rough such as Cameron Young and Jerrod Clark. Clark played in the Shrine Bowl.

#93 Cameron Young
