Day 2 Draft thread

At the end of the season it was a massive issue but they obviously addressed it. Sure if we could add a guy worthy of the fifth pick that would have been ideal but people are saying we STILL need to add more. Who, how? Draft is over and FAs are gone. Trade?

Perhaps it was no surprise that the Seahawks spent a substantial amount of their cap space on defensive linemen this offseason, most notably by signing Dre’Mont Jones to a three-year, $51.3 million contract. They added Jarran Reed — whom they drafted seven years earlier — at a lower rate. And in the last two days of the draft, they picked edge player Derick Hall (second round), defensive tackle Cameron Young (fourth) and defensive end Mike Morris (fifth).

That doesn't even include bringing Harris, Ford and or Woods. Also doesn't even include the UDFA.

2) Carroll implied during league meetings in late March that he was hoping to bring some former defensive linemen back — players such as the released Al Woods and Shelby Harris or free agent Poona Ford.

They had a pretty good idea early on they weren't filling the position with the fifth pick in the draft. And even having Carter becoming available didn't change that. I mean if people are disappointed they didn't address it more in the draft.

It just occurred to me, this draft kinda reminds me of the 1990 NBA draft. Gary Payton didn't seem like a bad pick but it wasn't very exciting. A guard out of Oregon that couldn't shoot a jump shot. My God, what a great pick in a thin draft. If Witherspoon was to take on a role like that it be something

I couldn't believe how bad Payton was shooting his early years. I thought he would be a bust for sure.

Hadn't seen the extended version. It was George Karl, they canned Jones and hired Karl, Peyton's second season I believe.

Ranked the 10th greatest number 2 pick all time. Interesting, Gerry West and Bill Russell were number 2 picks, didn't know that.

i was right with you Sexy - so wanting Wypler at 83, and then we trade out. then pure relief when the next 4 picks were all interior, even if not the same order i would have gone. Unbelievable master stroke by John again to get this much talent going BPA for the whole first half and still plugging the biggest holes on the interior. could still use another DT or two, but maybe Woods will come back.

in the presser, Pete specifically said he hopes Woods and Poona come back.

Also, one of the UDFAs is a first team all american DT that had 10.5 sacks.

Thats great but I don't get this obsession with needing 25 DTs. I count 7 with the UDFA. How many DTs do we need??? Last season we had FOUR. Why do we need more than 7 all of a sudden???

If they're going back to a 4-3 front they might need more than four. But numbers isn't the problem. The problem is that Al Woods is the most talented of the bunch.

it's not the quantity. It's a question of quality. First, Mone probably won't play, so he doesn't count. Second, just tossing in UDFA and counting them as contributors is wishful thinking. One of them turns out OK if we're lucky. Third, most of the guys listed as DTs aren't NTs, and are more modified DEs (like Dremont Jones). That's all fine and good as long as SOMEBODY clogs the middle. Cameron Young is hopefully that guy, but with Mone out, he's the only healthy NT on the roster.

I don't know if you noticed, but we sucked against the run last year, and that's partly because we had to put a bunch of pass rushers out there because none of them were good enough to get pressure on their own.
