He may not be wrong. One or two bats aren't going to fix the absolute lack of production up and down this lineup. Again, it is annoying as shit watching them. I guess I shouldn't say that, since I haven't watched this month. To frustrating to watch. Walk up to the plate, stare at half the strikes and swing and miss out your ass at the others, then walk back to the dugout cashing checks. I've seen it all before, but over the past two seasons they managed to get in and even once stay in the playoff chase. Then? Instead of getting better, like pretty much every other potential competitor? We added the worst offensive second baseman in history and two other shitty bats to trade off at DH, and wonder why we are 8.5 games out of the division and 5 out of the WC!D-train wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 3:04 pmNope he already said Babe Ruth in his prime won't help and I don't think anyone better than that will be available....Michael K. wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 2:38 pmDo any of you really believe we will ADD an impact player? Specifically a bat? I don't.

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Well said. Our regulars get behind in the count and have to protect instead of driving the ball and end up swinging at garbage down and off the plate. What a show!Michael K. wrote: ↑Fri Jun 16, 2023 3:59 pmHe may not be wrong. One or two bats aren't going to fix the absolute lack of production up and down this lineup. So, Locked-on talked a but about what if Marco is out for the season?
Bryan Woo looked ok in his last start but I imagine he is on an innings count. Hancock could probably go for another start or two. But then if you are positive we are in a playoff race pitching Flexen or Millone may not be pretty.
So they talked about it in an "segment" style.
They mentioned two former M's (Paxton 6 starts 148 ERA+, Smyly 14 starts 125 ERA+, and the last place in NL Cards Jordan Montgomery 110 ERA+
I think the Cards would be a good trade partner: They are pitching poor in both BP and starters Montgomery is in his walk year and Mikolas is a short timer who is 34, Wainwright is retiring, everybody else sucks.
On the other hand they have some good young position players along with the vet corners and could go buy pitching in the offseason and retool for next year.

How does a month impact teams? A month ago the SF Giants looked like they were going to be seller 17-23 5-under and with a number of sellable pieces: Conforto, Joc, Wade, SP Cobb, BP ~Rogers x2.
Now they are 38-32 1/2 game back of LAD having stomped the Dodger on "pride night" 15-0.

So yeah, basically what I said in my trade proposal on another thread.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 6:10 pmMorosi says we have been in discussions with the Cards.

D-Train - respect to your acumen and knowledge. That said, I have to believe JD has boxed himself into trading some pitching talent. He has pitchers out the wazoo, the offense is tepid and needs upgrades, and the front office won’t splurge in FA. He kind of has to let go of some of his starting arms at this point. The questions are “who” and “for what”.

A St. Louis forum discusses the reported talks between the Cardinals and Mariners:

One forum contributor proposed this trade:

One forum contributor proposed this trade:
Donovan, Montgomery, ONeill and Stratton for Gilbert and the 30th pick in Sundays draft. Mariners need an infielder who can play either 2b or 3b. ONeill can replace Teoscar Hernendez in 2024.

That is the thing though he doesn't have pitcher out of the Wazoo. They just started a DFA guy a few days ago.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 6:15 pmSo yeah, basically what I said in my trade proposal on another thread.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2023 6:10 pmMorosi says we have been in discussions with the Cards.
