This is not the first time this type of article has hit on Mariner pitching and "Our core is staying". I was coveting the Montgomery-Goldy-Nolan A. trio coming back but I could get behind a Gorman or Walker deal.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 4:22 amDid you read the comments below? Everyone knows the article is full of shit.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 3:46 amI was looking at mlbtr and saw this

It says one of the targets they have is Logan Gilbert.
The article says we want Gilbert but we want our core:
Notably, the Cards are uninterested in trading core players like Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, Lars Nootbaar and Jordan Walker. They are open, however, to trading pitchers like Jordan Montgomery, Jordan Hicks, Ryan Helsley and Génesis Cabrera, while Jack Flaherty is already generating interest from other clubs. As for what kind of player they are looking to bring in, Goold lists Logan Gilbert of the Mariners as someone they are interested in.
I guess they did not list Nolan Gorman
GM's will never tip their hand when it comes to what they'll give up for a player. You can't get Logan Gilbert with a combination of ANY of the players listed above.
A Gilbert trade starts with a headliner of Walker or Gorman and ends with 2x other, young controlled bats.

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Not sure I want to give up a legit no. 2 starter for a younger Brandon Nimmo.
Donovan's ceiling is basically an .820 OPS, 20 homers... meh.
Suppose I'd be happy with Gorman and Donovan for him.
1. Donovan 2B
2. Julio CF
3. Shohei DH
4. Goldschmidt 1B
5. Gorman 3B
6. Kelenic LF
7. Raleigh C
8. Clase/Marlow RF?
9. JP SS

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
I would also sell Geno. If we can sell Flexen we can sell Geno. Pay half his salary.
Brewers, Marlins, Yankees and Phillies could all use an upgrade at 3B:

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Geno would be viewed as an upgrade? Enough of one to actually invest in?
