Angels literally just fucked the market.

They traded no. 2 and 3 prospects in their org for 2x pitchers with 2 months of remaining control.

Now everyone is going to want top prospects for rentals.
And they did it for a BP guy with a 103 ERA+ and:

Giolotto has a big name but was bad last year (81 ERA+)and has a 116 ERA+ this year.

The frustrating thing about not being aggressive at the deadline is that it basically says that the M's are OK punting another year of Kirby/Gilbert/Castillo control down the road... the pitching is here and ready to win now... so why would you not do everything in your power to build as good of an offense as you can?

That was always the truly maddening thing about this M's off season.

Turns out I was already bitching about it on Feb. 5th...

and came out right as rain.
the pitching is NOT ready to win now! Kirby and Woo blow up every other time out! the bullpen is completely shot! This is a preparation year for 24 and 25. The kids are taking their lumps and building up their arms for going deeper in 24 and 25
They have about a top-3 pitching staff this season. If that's not ready to win now, what is? You should look stuff up before posting.

If these guys are their best prospects I don't know what to say

KY Bush 4.47 ERA in the minors and a 5.58 ERA as a 23 year-old in AA( Not in top 100)

Edgar Quero Baseball prospectus has him ranked at #89 but no others. As a 20 year old in AA he has a .717 OPS. He is a catcher so there is the positional value here. I would call him a border line top 100 because he is in only 1 publication.

You know not all clubs are equal. Their #1 prospect is also a catcher and has a .800 OPS in MLB. With this trade the the Sox can claim they got their top 2 prospects in return.

And the Angels have doubled down for a run. But will likely fall off a cliff when Ohtani leaves.
They have a number of good bats out
CF Trout 134 OPS+
2B Drury 121 OPS+
C Logan O'Hoppe #1 prospect and a 137 OPS+
Not to mention : Jo Adell, Urshella, Rendon, Walsh

If the Angels get fully healthy they are probably at least even if not a little better overall.

And they are 1/2 a game in-front of us now.

Angels, Nationals Have Discussed Jeimer Candelario Trade

I guess that may mean that Rendon, or Walsh or both are not expected back soon.

This guy suggest trading Munoz for India… moving Geno to SS and JP to 2B to acquire Candelario.

Why aren't people talking about trading one or two of our top hitting prospects not named Gonzales that are years away from contributing for a good mlb hitter with multi years of control? Why do we want to put a hole in our current rotation instead???

I think that’s more of an off-season type move. I don’t want to trade Young or Gonzales. I also really like arroyo, and while I have my questions about Montes, I think his value will increase over the next year

Trading one of your starters seems like more of an off season move to me. Trading Ford or even Young has zero impact on this season or even next season.

It’s more about how the trade deadline is a sellers market. Trading a starter now would be giving him up at peak value where he could help a team win, and mariners could get some prospects ready to help the team next year. Trading your prospects for a player, you may have to give up more now than in December.
