As God as my witness I will never understand these Hamstring Injuries
Re: As God as my witness I will never understand these Hamstring Injuries
He was drafted with an issue already. Great. I am sure sitting out of practice had nothing to do with his injury.

All because of the timing of when he would get his money. These dudes can't hold out for more, so know they want to hold out about when. Ridiculous.
Even if this wasn't caused by holding out and then jumping back in, he has opened himself up for that criticism. Because he needed it all now and not spread out. Must have had some serious debt to pay off. I guess his NIL offers weren't that good?
Re: As God as my witness I will never understand these Hamstring Injuries
That was my exact thinking. He must have had next to no NIL. So, he needed his cash fast. Way to go Devon. This makes me like the pick even less. I hope he isn't injury prone now too. We have Adams and Walker already. Walker seems to get hurt frequently too. I guess with ZC pick at 2 the hawks thought so too.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:13 pm![]()

Still pissed he held out.

I'm certainly no expert, but the hamstring is a large and often neglected muscle group.
For what it's worth:
HAMSTRING INJURIES
The hamstring is a group of four muscles that run along the back of the thigh, stretching from the hip to the knee, and they help a person bend their leg at the knee. These injuries vary in severity, and in turn, their timetable in sidelining a player. Hamstring injuries often occur in people who play sports that involves sprinting with sudden stops and starts. It’s one of the most common and troublesome injuries seen in athletes.
A mild pull of one of the muscles, commonly referred to as a Grade I injury, can sideline a player for a few days to a couple of weeks and can be a lingering condition if not sufficiently rested and healed. A Grade II hamstring injury involves a partial tear, while a Grade III injury is a complete tear of the hamstring that could require surgery and is likely season ending.

Re: As God as my witness I will never understand these Hamstring Injuries
Here is the irony, I haven't been able to touch my toes since about 1980. Just tried and can't even get within a foot of my toes. Never do any stretching whatsoever. Ever. Lifetime of well above average physical activity and never had a hamstring issue in my life.
Maybe all the stretching is what is causing the problems????
Either that or I am super human. lol

you can't seriously be comparing your activity level to that of a professional athlete, though?? If you've never seen/gone thru a professional athlete's daily routine, it would blow your mind. Your 'above average physical activity' for a year would probably be less than they do in a week. I'm not slamming you, it's just a mind-blowing fact. It is absolutely insane what top level athletes do. I trained jiu jitsu for about a decade, and along the way trained with several UFC guys (not comparing myself to them - I was terrible - just giving background). I would go, spend two hours of a workout that is exhausting (the warmups are more than most average folks' workouts), then go home... but those guys would be on their third training session of the day and weren't done. Mike Tyson's daily routine would be waking up at 4am, run for 4-5 miles, do 400 pushups and 400 squats, then go back for a nap. At noon, he'd do push-ups, situps, and an insane round of neck strengthening exercises I couldn't even describe. Then he'd do 10 rounds of sparring. He'd take a small break, then do another 6 rounds of sparring, then hit the bags and spend ANOTHER hour of jump rope or bike. Now that he was warmed up, he'd do more sets of the pushups, situps, and neck workouts, have dinner, then spend ANOTHER half hour on the bike. He did this every day.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 10:28 pmHere is the irony, I haven't been able to touch my toes since about 1980. Just tried and can't even get within a foot of my toes. Hamstring injuries are common in guys that have to run fast, stop, cut, and run fast again. It's like comparing a race car's tires to the ones on your daily driver. You change yours every few years, they change theirs twice a race... because they are putting it thru a lot more.
Re: As God as my witness I will never understand these Hamstring Injuries
I obviously get that but I am no way near in as good as shape as them as evidenced by my inability to come close to touching my toes!
And isn't max effort, max effort. Doesn't the strain on a 56 yo hammy running a 6.0 40 yard dash the same as a 22 yo elite athlete running a 4.4?

Good analogy on the race car tires. I was thinking race care engines but same principal. That makes sense.

Article on the "epidemic" of hamstring injuries with NFL players.

Players are pushing training to the edge
Two things of note
Players are pushing training to the edge
Relatively Minor strains are going to be taken seriously because a weakened hamstring is even more susceptible to an actual tearAs an extra risk factor, athletes are constantly striving for that edge to be the fastest, strongest player on the field. The stronger they are, the faster, quicker and more powerful they are. However, if balance is lost and mobility takes a back seat, they put themselves at a greater risk.
https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/n ... on-playersWhen an athlete tries to play through a "pulled" hamstring, the muscle fibers are already compromised and can fully tear if there is enough stress. That's why it is imperative to rest and rehabilitate.
