The only way this is a bad thing, is if the guy is flexible at positions because he isn't really good at any of them.

I like the options this year. I can't be the only one that was tired of watching our LBs get beat in coverage over and over again because our DBs were so shitty that Pete didn't trust putting them on the field. I look at the secondary now and see no reason we should have many LBs on the field on passing downs. The days of asking Brooks, Wagner and KJ to cover should be over. Several years ago the Bills kicked our ass. On a few different snaps the Bills split a WR out wide and KJ went out and lined up over him like he was a CB! Can't make that shit up. Our scheme was shit and the personal in the secondary was shit. I don't think that will be the case now. Having the ability to actually put three safeties and three corners on the field at the same time and not be a huge liability is a big deal.

I think our entire defense would have been better last year with Love, and certainly with Adams. I think the LBs will be better in run defense this year and being able to sub them off and have a guy like Adams on the field instead is fine. I really do believe he is better in coverage than he has shown here, but if he isn't? Does it matter? He won't be worse than Brooks and any other LB we tried to use last year. Plus he's a better pass rusher than anyone we have at LB or DB.

Flexibility and versatility is not a bad thing per se. Is Pete going this route to help offset injuries? I can only speak for myself, but I've kinda given up on Adams. Although I'm sure Pete hasn't, but this might be his way of working around that. I hope Adams makes a full recovery and can contribute in a big way, but I have my doubts. Hope I'm wrong.

Really looking forward to seeing Love in action this season.

You going after Nick Bellore again?

That statement is true, though. Koby Bryant really looks like he can play multiple positions to me, as does Love. Love is better at it, but he's also been at it longer. If they can be used sorta interchangeably, it would really offer a ton of flexibility in coverages. They could do a lot of creative things - how does the QB key on a safety if he doesn't know which of the 4 guys out there is actually PLAYING safety on a given snap? I'm not saying this would be an every down type of thing, just a wrinkle they could pull out at a key time.

Right now, they could have Adams playing LB, Bryant at SS, Love at nickel, or Adams at SS, Bryant at nickel, and Love as a rover or whatever. I don't know what they'll do, but it COULD be really powerful.

Both can basically be true. I am sure no one has "given up" on Adams, but it would be insane to not at least plan for having to play significant snaps without him.

Haha, I just never saw the reasoning for needing him because he can play FB and LB. First off, we never use a FB. Second? If he is playing NFL snaps at LB? Then your defense isn't very good. That said? The dude contributes on Special Teams. And that makes sense. But keeping him for anything else is silly.

I think there is something to be said for this. AZ has used a Safety at LB for some time. Hell, didn't Buchanon play LB in their base defense? Having the kind of versatility on the field to not allow the offense to dictate what plays they run based on your personnel can't possibly be a bad thing. Again, we all joked about the Jets DC saying that Seattle wouldn't know how to use Adams...and it was just a season later that we were complaining about how the Seahawks didn't know how to use Adams. Playing him like he was Earl Thomas was fucking stupid!

I don't even think I have heard of a quad tear but it has now been over 11 months with no end in sight. Anyone know anything about this type of injury?

"While the Seattle Seahawks activated linebacker Jordyn Brooks off the PUP (physically unable to perform) list on Tuesday, August 15, remarkable news considering he underwent surgery for a torn ACL less than eight months ago, it’s unclear when safety Jamal Adams will return.

Adams, who signed a four-year, $70.5 million contract with the Seahawks in 2021, suffered a quadriceps tear in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season. While he’s been rehabbing alongside Brooks this summer, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll remains vague on when he expects the three-time Pro Bowler to pass his physical and come off the PUP list.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Carroll said Adams was “not quite as far along” as Brooks, and stressed how they are taking a cautious approach with the veteran safety.

“Again we got to get them not just where they can kind of get back out there, they have to be able to stay out there. That’s why we are taking the time and making sure that hopefully when they return, they can stay returned,” he said."

I posted a photo awhile back on another thread, but have a look. Nasty. Stapling a person's leg together can't be good. Especially when said person plays professional football for a living.

Sure, you'd think a little crazy glue would've done the trick.

Not even close. Quad MUSCLE is in the thigh. Patellar TENDON is in the lower knee.

Pete on Jamal's recovery
“He’s making his progress, he’s doing his stuff,” Carroll told reporters. “We’ll see him in the next week or so in person, so we’re anxious to get connected with him. But when he came out and visited with our guys and checked in, everything was going the way it was supposed to go. This is a difficult recovery. We went through this with Jimmy (Graham), so we’ve been through it before.”
