Obviously, Pete has shown in the past that he has no issues moving a high draft pick lower on the depth chart, especially at RB. But I thought Charbonnet has looked better than Penny did at any time in Penny's first two Pre Seasons. Charbonnet didn't battle a weight issue because of a hand injury, which I really do think put Penny in the doghouse, and SHOULD have. I know they have always been high on Dallas, and he sure has gotten better since his rookie season when he looked like the dumbest RB since C Mike. But, I just don't see it.

Charbonnet is a rookie, first game of the season. I don't think it's anything more than being familiar with the system
Re: Current Depth Chart
I'm almost positive that Walker was listed number 2 at this time last year.

Yeah, for some reason they don't seem to feel as comfortable with Charbonne out of the shute first game of the season. It could be his pass blocking. They go about things with a certain pace
It's worth noting that Walker had more than half of Seattle's designed rushing attempts as a rookie in 2022, and he didn't even earn the starting gig until Week 6.

Should Charbonnet get an opportunity and make the most of it, that will certainly change.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 2:15 pmI'm more concerned with why he is our number two RB. He's soooooo bad at it. Telling me none of those rookie WRs aren't better?

Re: Current Depth Chart
He was. The only example I can think of is Penny, and again, I have always thought he opened the season behind Mike Davis as the third back because he was in the doghouse. A hand injury had him in camp fat and out of shape. That is beyond inexcusable. And I don't think that was lost on Pete.
I don't remember anything besides an injury that Charbonnet has seemed to recover from being any knock against him this camp. Maybe Dallas just outplayed him in their eyes. I really haven't seen enough to know...it just seems like what we knew of each player, Charbonnet would be ahead of Dallas.

Re: Current Depth Chart
I chalk that up only to the injury thing. Or maybe it's more of a third down back thing. If Walker goes down, there's no way Dallas goes in over a healthy Charbonnet.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 2:15 pmI'm more concerned with why he is our number two RB. I think it could go along with why they have him returning punts. They're comfortable with him making correct decisions. Charbonnet could be the more talented player. But Pete at this point is more concerned about not missing an assignment. Which could very well be a function of the injury.

That makes perfect sense.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 6:17 pmI chalk that up only to the injury thing. Or maybe it's more of a third down back thing. If Walker goes down, there's no way Dallas goes in over a healthy Charbonnet.
I think that is very much the same as what SA is saying. If we need a back to come in and be the workhorse, I wouldn't be surprised if that is Charbonnet...if Walker goes down. That said, they may trust the veteran backup more as a 3rd down guy out of the backfield and in pass pro.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 7:31 pmI think it could go along with why they have him returning punts. Thinking it's interesting a week ago Deejay was sending out criptic messages hinting at being cut, seems though he's made himself pretty valuable. And he's done it by putting the work in rather than just natural talent
