Odd timing though right? Would we have not wanted cap flexibility before all the FAs signed?
Exactly. Who is available that would be an upgrade over Reed???
well there is an internet rumor that Vita Vea might be on the trade block... and his 2023 salary is about 6.5m.
I didn't see any rumors on the internet, was it some rando with 11 followers on twitter starting it? lol

Man, I would have loved to see Vea in a Seahawks uniform. Alas. :(
Yeah he is a Dawg so of course I would be all in but not much more than pure fantasy at this point.

Not 11th hour nesssarily, but they've tended to have a big trade up their sleeve. In a league that doesn't trade much

Sheldon Richardson was also on Sept. 1st but 2017 this time so 9 days before the season started. Those are the only two late ones I can think of. Not 52 hours before kick off.

His dead cap hit will go up making it more costly to cut him.
I know, but everyone does it, and again, the cap goes up every year. If they don't use that money wisely this year? Then I might question the decision. But I am not too worried about it. The chances of it costing them more to cut him later in relation to the increase in the cap is pretty low, I'd imagine.

So logic would dictate they don't plan to cut him

JS has never been one to do much restructuring...
Few general managers have been more against the idea of pushing salary cap hits to future seasons than John Schneider over the years
I trust JS's handling of the cap. I can't remember a season where they seemed cap restricted. If they are doing it, there must be a reason

Certainly not this year. But, as I said, with the cap increasing, I highly doubt that the restructured this in such a way that they will be in trouble down the road. I guess an end of the world scenario could occur, and the cap doesn't increase. But when was the last time that happened?

The NFL salary cap will fall to $182.5 million in 2021, which is an 8% drop from the 2020 figure, according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert. A drop in the salary cap was expected due to lost revenue from the COVID-19 crisis. Attendance across the league dropped 92% in 2020, per Seifert.Mar 10, 2021
