So without all those false starts do we even win?
I am way more concerned with the fact that we are one of the worst teams in all of football defensively on third down. We allow almost a 60% conversion. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, because I believe Brock said 57%, but that is WAY too high. I don't think the false starts hurt nearly as much as you might think, because we just ended up giving up the third down anyway.

They are also pretty lousy at converting them aren't they?

If memory serves me, it usually ends up 3rd and long. Then a stuffed run. Followed by a punt.

Yeah, or a field goal, just parroting Pete

His latest news conference
“We were lousy on third down and we were lousy in the red zone scoring,” Carroll said
“We have to convert on third down down there and we’ve got to capture the opportunity of the drive. It can’t get any more obvious than that,” Carroll said.

“That’s where we’re focusing,” Carroll added. “It’s carrying over a little bit. We’ve seen this for a couple weeks. It’s not good enough. We’re gonna need that to really get better. We already have ideas and we can’t wait to get back to work on it.”

Here is an idea. Throw past the down to gain when facing 3rd down on offense and don't give them a 10 yard cushion on 3rd and 5

The problem is always staying in that base and allowing any competent QB to just make basic read-and-throw plays because you know where the mismatch is immediately - and it's almost ALWAYS going to be a TE/WR matched up on a LB. Jamal Adams may be the guy that can wreck those underneath routes with blitzes or coverage.
Huard said that exact same thing this morning. Said he feels like QBs are simply picking on Wagner and Brooks, that part of our soft zone. I have always just HATED the fact that our LBs are so involved in coverage, and yet are always so bad at it. He agrees with you that Adams will help, and litteraly said in both the pressure package and the coverage package. There are a few in this forum that probably just threw up in their mouths when they read Adams and coverage!
ALL linebackers have to cover - all of them. It's part of the assignment - and it's not that Wagz or Brooks suck - it's that they are not as good as the secondary guys - THAT'S why they are the mismatch - it's not that they suck - it's the most favorable match up for the offense and the QB's read this and go there - and every single defense in th NFL faces the exact same situation. A TE or WR on a LB always favors the offense. Adams value is in creating confusion for the QB - you donlt knwo what his assignment is going to be - and that makes it harder on the offense - they have to make different reads. I have no problem with Adams in coverage - this narrative that he can't cover is utter nonsense. Dude can do it all - he's like a linebacker that CAN cover and that is trouble for any offense. Just like you don't want your secondary guys being run stuffers - it's not what they excel at - LB's are run stuffers meaning they are less adept at coverage. These are the match ups the QB has to read and react to.

Read somewhere that Wags was pretty much sucking on coverage, again it's relative. He's getting kinda old

37 points with Curhan, Forsythe and Bradford getting 100% of snaps.

Agreed. Personally, I wasn't excited to hear that Wagner was coming back. No disrespect, I love the guy. But at this stage? Hopefully he can mentor the young guys.

I also have an idea... actually, a few...

It would be fun to see PC game plan for the opponent, rather than show his cards every week and attempt to simply 'establish the run'.

It would be fun to see more game time adjustments (as per what the opposition is showing).

And it would be fun to see SEA play an entire game of football. These half games (re: LAR) need to stop.
