I don't understand the Sweat deal. Does Chicago think they are a contender?? That 2nd round pick should (knock on wood) be WAY more valuable than the 2nd round pick we sent NY. Theirs would currently be top 40, where ours would be around #60.

Insane that it is Chicago but the return seems reasonable relative to our deal?SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 4:38 pmI don't understand the Sweat deal. While I don’t disagree, the officiating was dogshit. Three iffy penalties extended Cleveland drives. The numbers are skewed, IMO.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 4:00 pmThey just gave up 230 yards passing to the Browns backup QB who's name I cant even remember. They have potential but there isn't anyone with any credibility who would put them in the top 10 at this point.SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:21 amlmao "stat wise"? They spent the first month of the season down 3 CBs and an all-pro (when healthy) safety. If not for bullshit penalties, they'd also have 2 more INTs and a couple of sacks, plus probably several completions that wouldn't have even been because they would've been off the field.acctingman wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 11:20 pm
I don't think the secondary is sniffing the best in the NFL. From what I'm seeing, stat wise, they are middle of the road. They are good though and Witherspoon is amazing.
I don't know what it is with people cherry-picking stats to evaluate what's going on. You have to look at the big picture and put those stats in context.

But there is pretty much zero chance the Bears make the playoffs. How much is left on Sweat’s deal?D-train wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 4:39 pmInsane that it is Chicago but the return seems reasonable relative to our deal?SeattleAddict wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 4:38 pmI don't understand the Sweat deal. He is also a FA. Just wondering if the ~35th pick for him about the same value as a ~55th pick for Williams. Or is he a lot better?Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 4:41 pmBut there is pretty much zero chance the Bears make the playoffs. Final year... Weird
This acquisition doesn't make a ton of sense. As noted above, Sweat is slated to enter free agency, so the Bears could have waited until the offseason to try to sign him. But instead of bidding for his services, the Bears decided to be proactive while acquiring him now.
Sweat can still leave in free agency, but the Bears must feel good about their chances to re-sign him. How things go for the remainder of the 2023 season will undoubtedly help determine whether or not Sweat stays or goes

The good old days... and they do re-sign him, they will be paying market. Does that make giving up what could be the 40th pick in the draft worth it? It's funny, skimming the reactions. It gets panned and then gets a c-. Are football gms dumber than baseball gms these days? It does make me appreciate JS

Only the Panthers are worse than the Bears at the moment. That pick could be as high as 33 and will be no lower than 35 most likely.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 5:41 pmThe good old days... and they do re-sign him, they will be paying market.
