New HC thread
Re: New HC thread
He is a former Husky. I'm in!
Bobby Slowik (born June 9, 1987) is an American football coach who is the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). He previously has served as an assistant coach for the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers.
Playing career
Bobby Slowik attended Michigan Tech University and played wide receiver for the Huskies in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Slowik started 10 games at wide receiver in 2008, recording 43 receptions for 603 yards and 4 touchdowns.[1]
Coaching career
Washington Redskins
After spending the 2010 season as a video assistant, Slowik accepted his first NFL coaching position as a defensive assistant with the Washington Redskins in 2011 under head coach Mike Shanahan. Slowik remained on the coaching staff as a defensive assistant through the 2013 NFL season, after which Mike Shanahan was fired and Slowik was not retained.
San Francisco 49ers
Following his stint with the Redskins, Slowik spent 2014 through 2016 as an analyst with PFF.[2] Following that stint, Slowik joined the San Francisco 49ers as a defensive quality control coach under head coach Kyle Shanahan in 2017 and 2018.[3] For the 2019 and 2020 NFL seasons, however, Slowik moved to the offensive side of the ball as an offensive assistant. In 2021, upon the departure of offensive passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur, Slowik took on new responsibilities as the offensive passing game specialist. In 2022, Slowik was promoted to offensive passing game coordinator.[4]
Houston Texans
Slowik was hired as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans on February 12, 2023 by new head coach DeMeco Ryans, who Slowik had previously worked with in San Francisco.[5]
Personal life
Bobby Slowik is the son of Bob Slowik, who currently serves as a defensive assistant for the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL and previously served as the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, and Denver Broncos.

Houston had a pretty dynamic offense. I don't know that Slowik accomplishes the same thing with Geno that he did with CJ. That is kind of why I am high on Johnson and Bienemy. Neither exactly have an MVP canidate at QB.

His firing was met with quite a bit of surprise, there are issues but the the impression seems to be roster construction. The owner released a statement...D-train wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:32 amI think the reason may have been that he went 13-21 the past two seasons. We were 18-16.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:30 amI'm the opposite, I'm not excited about hiring a OC. It's a gamble, projecting if they can make the leap. I think we get too excited projecting possibilities. I'll take the veteran. What's interesting about Vrebel is he was fired for no appearant reason. Seems like the best of all worlds. He's up and coming no learning curve.
Odd, but seems to be friction with the GM and Vrebel is out. I guess the GM is trying to be innovative, promoting analytics. That's seems to be what that statement is about. In any event, he will most likely take Belichicks job.As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve, I believe the teams best positioned for sustained success will be those who empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions. Last year, we began a shift in our approach to football leadership and made several changes to our personnel to advance that plan

If you bring in McDonald does he bring in someone from Baltimore to call plays as OC. I wouldn't be opposed to Vrabel. Players wanna play for him. Again the question looms, who would he bring in as OC. Outside of him I think it's gotta be Johnson or Harbaugh. Slowik outside chance.

Re: New HC thread
Go look at the list of NFL coaches right now, look at the sheer amount of the ones that have had success, and used to be OCs, and tell me hiring a retread is less of a gamble! I remember when Sean Payton was going to save Russ Wilson. I remember when Doug Pedersen was all the Jags needed to right the ship, and it it hadn't been for the Chargers being the worst franchise ever? They'd have one blow out playoff loss to show for their entirety of time with Goldie Locks the sure thing.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 12:30 amI'm the opposite, I'm not excited about hiring a OC. There is just too much evidence. I will never understand the logic that someone who has tried and failed is a better option than someone who hasn't gotten a shot yet. Learning curve? LeFluer won three straight division titles and went to two straight NFCCGs. McVey hit the ground running, McDaniels has taken the Dolphins to the playoffs in his only two years. The list goes on and on. You know what list doesn't? The list of successful retreads or guys brought in from college. Give me a guy that has been sleeping in his office pouring over plays, not the guy that has been shoving wads of cash into mom and dad's hands trying to get Jimmy to come play ball. And not a guy that has "his way" and it's already failed.
I don't understand the desire for some to just look right into the face of evidence and ignore it. Below are the playoff teams
Baltimore. HC was never a HC before he got here.
Buffalo. HC was never a HC before he got here.
KC. Andy Reid has been there for over a decade
Houston. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Cleveland. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Miami. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Pittsburgh. HC was never a HC before he got there.
SF. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Dallas. McCarthy
Detroit. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Tampa Bay. Tod Bowles
Philly. HC was never a HC before he got there.
LA Rams. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Green Bay. HC was never a HC before he got there.
Two things. 11 of 14 guys had NEVER BEEN A HC before. 0 out of 14 ever had a Head job in college.
But, yeah, the risky proposition is hiring an existing Coordinator. Learning Curve and all.
