Re: New HC thread
I think the more damning part is "young and talented roster". I don't think it's a coincidence that just a few days ago Pete blamed their issues this year on youth. Especially since not that long ago the goal was to get younger. So, Pete went to them and said they needed to get younger, they got younger and Pete blamed the losses on too many young guys. Not a good look, IMO.

Dude was grasping at straws. If he came back he would have had to spend the entire off season thinking up new excuses....Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 5:45 pmI think the more damning part is "young and talented roster". I could be talked into Mike McDonald very easily. I would just want him to get a dynamic OC. IMO, this offense is in bigger trouble than the defense. Early in the season the defense was flying around making plays. I still have no clue why Pete decided he needed to change the defense to take away the big play. The offense is incredibly boring. The run game was disgusting, just plain disgusting. I can't remember the last time I witnessed a less imaginative run game. It was as if Waldren got mad early in the season when Walker and Charbs had huge per carry averages, but we barely ran. There was a pretty big deal made of it. After that? That fucking baby Waldren ran a dive play on like every first and second down. It was a big middle finger. "You want me to run, here you go." I have been done with him for awhile now. About mid way through last season teams started staying home on our play action boot leg, and he has had no answer ever since. There are talented playmakers. We might have had the most talented three receiver set in football, Noah Fant is a freak and Parkinson is a mismatch. Waldron had no clue. It was pretty obvious there was a reason he was simply a pass game coordinator in LA and not an OC.
If we hire a Defensive minded coach, who is the OC? Slowik, Bienemy and Johnson aren't taking lateral moves to come here. Do we hire someone from college? I just think the game is too different. Everyone knows the love I have for Jeff Tedford as a play caller. He lasted on year as an OC in the NFL. Two years later he was at Washington saving Jon Smith. I just don't like the idea of bringing in anyone from college. Simply not the same game, they aren't the same players, nothing is the same.
So, I like our chances of finding a good DC more than I do a good OC. Shit, some of the best defenses this year are run by retreads like Jim Schwartz in Cleveland. I feel bringing in an ex HC as a DC makes more sense than bringing in a failed HC to be a HC. That approach is not uncommon.
Jack Del Rio in Washington, Raheem Morris in LA, Vic Fangion in Miami, Leslie Frazier in Buffalo, Gus Bradley in Indy, Vance Joseph in Denver, Steve Spagnuolo in KC, Dan Quinn in Dallas, Brian Flores in Minnesota, and Steve Wilks in SF (very short HC career tho). It's possible I missed a few, but I think it is more prevelant for HCs to move to DC than OC. Maybe it's the shift in the game. I just don't think Defensive minded HCs are the way to go?
I did the same search for ex HCs that are OCs. All I can find is Matt Nagy. The game has changed, maybe we want to buck the trend? I just don't know that you are going to have a great OC come play for a defensive minded HC.

You understand that Levy coached when I was in HS right? Not sure that's a good example. As for crying about Vrabel's QB room? Everyone wants Seattle to draft a QB. The Titans drafted one in each of the past two drafts!HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 3:34 amTannehill was never winning a SB. The only reason he would of was because of King Henry & AJ Brown. This narrative guys have to win at their first stop is garbage. Again Marv Levy went to 4 straight SB's lost each one does that mean you wouldn't hire him. It's not always the coach it's the talent around him. Again give Vrabel an Allen or Mahomes & you might be saying something different now. Again not my first choice. He deserves an interview along with all the rest. Matter of fact I'll give you my list right now of guys I would take as Head Coach:
Since Vrabel's been there, they drafted
Luke Falk 2018 6th round
Cole McDonald 2020 7th round
Malik Willis 2023 3rd round
Will Levis 2023 2nd round
He coached six season and they used a pick on QB four times. Twice in the 3rd round or higher. Yet, all we need to do is bring in the genius that is Mike Vrabel, draft him yet another QB, and bang, Super Bowl. That is more QBs than Seattle took in Carroll's 14 years I believe, and certainly more in the 3rd round or higher!
You are right, they don't HAVE to win at their first stop. But again, I am tired of our teams doing things different when there is no empirical evidence to support it. That leads us to reach for Germain Ifedi, Rashaad Penny, C Mike and who ever the DE was a couple of years ago that used to dance like he was on Soul Train each of the three times he registered a one yard sack because he was one yard passed the LOS and the QB ran into him. I hated that pick so much I've forgotten his name!
Doing things our way, being different? Has got us here. Sometimes other teams don't do something because it's not the right thing to do. Someone finally convinced them to stop reaching in the draft, and low and behold we've had a couple of good drafts in a row. Let's hope they realize that doing the thing that everyone else is doing is often the best, and they choose to hire a fresh young mind, not some dude that just lost his job elsewhere becaues he couldn't cut it. Vrabel lost the last seven games he coached in 2022 and went 6 and 11 this year. Yep, before winning his last game, Mike Vrabel, the one who it would seem people believe was unfairly fired and should immediately be brough in somewhere else? Before winning in week 18 this year he was 5 and 18. Yikes. I can see why you are so high on him.
At one point over the end of last year and beginning of this year, his teams had lost 14 of their last 17 games.
From the beginning of the collapse that cost them the playoffs last year until the end of this year his team was 6 and 18.
Over the past two seasons his teams are 13 and 21. Even that is bad enough, but the guy lost 14 of 17 and 18 of 24! What part of that screams...this guy has it going on!?
I don't give a fuck if guys love playing for him. Guys loved playing for Pete too! If we wanted to replace 18 and 16 with 13 and 21....What the Fuck for?

Re: New HC thread
By the way, I understand that after they got Russ, QB wasn't a huge need, but in PC's entire time here they drafted Russ and then Alex McGough in the 7th round in 2018. He made the playoffs with a washed-up Matt H. and Charlie Whitehurst! Made the playoffs when Russ was disgruntled and when he was so broken he could barely move. BUT, we should replace HIM with a guy that couldn't win when the team gave him two picks in back to back years. In those years he went 13 and 21. But THAT is the guy that we just draft a QB for and look out.
All I can see is him crying about how he used to have Derick Henry to dominate games and now he doesn't.

I would think that Schneider now has more control over football operations so I'm interested to see how he will pursue this.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 6:45 pmDoing things our way, being different? He has TOTAL control.douche wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 7:28 pmI would think that Schneider now has more control over football operations so I'm interested to see how he will pursue this.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 6:45 pmDoing things our way, being different? Confirmed. I feel better already. John Schneider to lead Seahawks head coach search and Pete Carroll won’t be involved.
Schneider will also have full personnel control.
Hope he can find us a young, intelligent aggressive coach. Someone like Shanahan would be fine with me.
