And if some government cabal was going to set up a shooting, they would have to find someone that would appear to be a nut acting alone and that could be manipulated into doing something that would almost certainly cost him his life.

I think that is what happened, plus he leaned a bit toward the crowd to look up at the chart on immigration that was displayed. Otherwise, a shot from his right would not have only hit him in the ear. Trump is very lucky to have survived. Our country is very lucky he survived.
