My thought is because there is so much college that weekend. I’m pretty sure there are college games Labor Day weekend from Thursday through Monday. That may have nothing to do with it though, just what I have always felt.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:22 amI would think having games on any holiday would bring a big viewing audience. Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. Why wouldn't you highlight opening day with big numbers on Labor day weekend? Maybe it is more of a picnic/travel type of holiday with less people at home? I don't know, but if I was in the biz I would do some research.Michael K. wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 3:00 pmBecause the players threw a fit about the added regular season game. No way were they going to start camp and pre season later, and I can’t imagine having games on Labor Day weekend was all that appealing. So they removed a game from the preseason. Would be interesting to know why they didn’t just start the preseason games a week later though.

I thought they used to play labor day weekend but I guess not. This is 1976. Note the season ended on December 12th. lolMichael K. wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:40 pmMy thought is because there is so much college that weekend. No. Said they'd hope to know something soon. At least he's got 2 weeks off to rest it.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 2:08 pmI missed the 2nd half broadcast. Was there any word on Nwosu's injury status?

Exactly. The over under being 7.5 is just ludicrous.auroraave wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 4:59 pmThis team is gonna be a problem.
Loaded defensive line for the first time in years - and deep. While they are nice, I don't care about the sacks - I care about no one running for 150 on this unit. That interior now looks fierce.
Secondary is stacked and deep.
The weakness is a 'merely decent" linebacking group that is not flashy, overly experienced or a deep position group, but fast and can tackle. They will scheme to minimize this weakness - scheming is McDonald's specialty. Yes, you are still going to see LB's in coverage because this is the NFL.
That offense could be ridiculous. Jesus, talk about a wealth of talent. You also have an offensive coordinator who will also SCHEME to the strengths and weaknesses.
Offensive line - there seems to me to be enough talent, experience and depth to be - at a minimum - quite serviceable and deep. The jury is out on their ceiling.
QB - Geno looks like he is going to be on fire. Will not be surprised if he is an MVP candidate - he could put up some numbers in this offense.
The depth of the backfield is utterly ridiculous.
The depth of the receivers group is utterly ridiculous - DK, Lockett, SMith-Njigba - and then add in Shenault who could be a major factor - dude is a flat out baller - I expect him to render Bobo nearly irrelevant.
Yeah, I can see this team winning 10/11 games - but this group has a very special feel to it - this is a talented roster matched up with a focused coaching staff that is emphasizing FUNDAMENTALS that have been lacking for at least five years. Just do your job, play fundamental, no stupid mistakes, and they also look fast as hell - kinda like a certain team did around 2013/2014.
Yeah, I think this team could be a real problem.

I love this broadcast team. Kate Scott is excellent. You can tell they are all genuinely enjoying themselves and each other and they call a great game. Wish they could be the regular season booth team for the Hawks.
Lol, listen to gay Kate crack up when Bennett calls the Kenny McIntosh stiffy on his TD run. Classic!

Without directly parsing through all of the legalities, the SBA's allowances don't apply if a game kicks off on Friday night or Saturday "during the period beginning on the second Friday of September and the second Saturday of December in any year from any telecasting station located within seventy-five miles of the game site of any intercollegiate or interscholastic football contest scheduled to be played on such a date." There are certain criteria those college games have to meet, but today's big-time NCAA football easily checks those boxes.
That arrangement, in theory, provides somewhat of a balance. If the NFL is able to have TV deals that would otherwise violate antitrust regulations, the league can't use that privilege to blanket the entire country with broadcasts. Protecting Fridays and Saturdays allows high school and college football a chance to shine without being overshadowed.

I like what little pre-season stuff I've seen of Laviska Shenault. He is why I asked the question on how many WRs.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:29 amWR Laviska has shown he is the #4 over Bobo IMOP. But White had an 80 yarder called back, Isop Winston(WSU) made some plays. I did not notice D. Young but the physical size with him is alluring. I did not notice WHite who had the 80 yarder called back was 6'3" 215# as well. There will be some potential let go somewhere at RB, WR, OL, Front 7 D, DBs. It will be interesting to see which of the bubble guys make it and if there are additional injury guys added to the PUP list that allow more of the bubble guys to stick for at least a little bit. Just my .02 $
But they better not fuck with Bobo. He better be on this team. When the shit gets real it a shitty game and we
need a clutch play by someone they aren't looking for, Bobo will deliver. guaranteed.
